sync w/PC and icons disappear

Hi, some what of a noob here. My Droid 3 isn't rooted or anything fancy, but everything works miracles and I love this phone. However, I've discovered that everytime I sync this phone w/my laptop (which is running on a Linux OS--Ubuntu) the icons on my "desktop" menu on the phone disappears. They also disappear when updating particular apps.

This is rather annoying. Is it the MotorBlur/UI? Besides just replacing the icons each & everytime...How do I fix this?
