Help system or ringer volume

I have HTC inspire 4g and my system and ringer volume has started to shoot up randomly within the past few days. It will also shoot up if I use the two buttons on the side on the side to lower or raise the volume even if I press to raise one increment. I have tried restarting it and taking off the case and the battery cover in case the buttons were getting caught, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Does anybody know what is going on or how to fix it.
