Hi, I just signed up for the US T-Mo 200MB "unlimited" data plan about a week ago, with $5 off the regular price for 24 months on a loyalty promo, with 24 month contract also. As I was concerned that may not be enough data, I was told by the phone rep, that once I use my 200MB on 3G/4G, it will depend if there's a "slot" open for 3/4G, that's not being used by someone with a higher priced data plan. If a slot is open, I was told I'll still connect at the higher speeds, but as soon as that high speed slot is needed, I get throttled down to EDGE I assume. Anyone else hear of this, or is this pure bunk? I been using wifi and 2G mode to save my hi-speed for when I really need it. I'll try to use the rest of my 200MB up in a few days, which shouldn't be hard to do, as my month renews on the 20th. I'll try to see if this is true if I don't find out before.

I did a mobile speedtest.net on 2G, first test was 101 down and 37 up, a second test showed 161 down and 76 up. A couple of tries said error connecting to speedtest.net Is that par for 2G? Any apps that may make 2G any faster? Thanks.

PS I also got the Sensation 4G which I may swap for the G2x, per concerns in my other posts.

I have a 5GB plan with the ZTE 4g mobile hotspot. I went over the limit in the first month because someone at work gained access (despite using WPA and not broadcasting SSID...which was still visible) and was using my connection. The data speeds were reduced to Edge the very next day (per the data usage logs online).

I have unlimited data for my phone, with both the "Android" and "web2go" plans, and I may have gone over once or twice on either plan. However I do not remember the speeds being throttled, despite there being a "soft limit".

I just found out some news tonight contrary to what I was told above, as well as an assumption of mine. I called 611 to ask, and the rep told me, once you're throttled down, you're down till your next billing cycle, and she said they should be at EDGE speed. My assumption, which I found out was wrong, is that with the plan you have, 200MB, or 2 or 5GB at high speed, or 200 MB in my case, is counted even if you use 2G. I was thinking they just counted 3/4G usage in your high speed limit.I told her I mainly kept my phone on 2G (when not using the sucky wifi) to sabe those 200MB for when i need fast speed. Guess T-Mo doesn't differentiate on what you're using to get to your cap. I might as well keep the mobile set to auto WCDMA/GSM. A letdown that your high speed allotment can't be separated from EDGE usage.
