If you are getting it straight from T-Mobile it isn't unlocked. Isn't' Walmart's plan with T-Mobile? I don't think you would need an unlocked phone for that. Can they just sell you a micro sim card to put in the phone?

I called a local corp store and the gentleman told me that they are getting 10 units in, he doesn't know the price(I don't see how you wouldn't know the price but didn't press him on this).

He stated that Value plans are available with the SGS3 and that the 500 minutes with unlimited data and text @ 2 gigs high speed is $49.99 and corporate discounts are applicable to value plans.

That's all the info I could really get out of him, no colors or storage sizes.

Told me it's first come first serve tomorrow when they open at 9 AM.

    Good luck.

Closest city to me that will be part of the launch is 2 hours away. I can't be there at 9 and at work at 9 the same time. :car:

I can find out. What I was reading online is that Walmart mobile plan in powered by T-Mobile. Walmart has horrible selections for this service and I was hoping to purchase the retail price for the S3 (t-mobile) and use it this way for my friend. Thanks for the input.

  6. Though I'm in the Charlotte market it looks like our store isn't getting it tomorrow. It wasn't listed on the inbound shipment list. Funny thing the screen protectors and cases will be in stock by tomorrow morning.

Please let us know if you got them in the store today.

Tmobile.com has only the White 32 gig in stock it looks like. I've tried the upgrade button for the phone but it looks like it will never load.

I bought mine in person at the Atlanta, GA, Buckhead location at about 1PM eastern time. They only has 16gb blue ones. They said that people were lined up at 8AM so they opened an hour early. They only had a few left after I got mine. One customer was returning a defective one, or possibly an app had malfunctioned.

  10. Still nothing today. Maybe some of the bigger stores got them.

Still waiting here in central NC. Called the Tmo store today and they said it would be in on the 29th but they can't sell until July 1.

  14. We have them all over the Charlotte now. Came in today.

  15. I have a couple questions, I just got the phone yesterday...

The guy at T-Mobile said by upgrading the new smartphone data pricing was $35 (vs my $20 I've had for a couple years), this is true right? There wasn't a way out of this unless I bought a phone off contract and this price would probably kick in at some point anyway? $15 more a month for no additional services is kind of silly...but what I'm paying is still competitive I guess($65, unlimited data, text).

I asked how wifi calling works and if I can just set it to my apartment wifi, he said yep you can and it's easy. It doesn't have that option, just 3 preferences with it, am I missing something?

The TMo USA GS3 uses the same S4 Krait as every other US variant. It's just that it won't have LTE capability because TMo's planned LTE will use different frequencies than the S4 Krait is capable of.

Right same processor but missing a component. LTE is integrated into the processor. The t-mobile version does not have LTE so the Processor is different in this sense. I was just explaining the possible reason why t-mobile got the phone quicker. They have a small subscriber base and the processor doesn't have the LTE radio built into it. So to be technical it is not the same processor as the other carriers.

That doesn't make sense from a manufacturing standpoint, though. Everything is on the wafer. You would have to change the manufacturing process to purposely exclude the LTE radio. That would cost more money and time than it would be to include the radio and not use it.

My theory is that Sprint and T-Mobile had some preferential treatment from Samsung because of their histories of supporting previous Samsung devices. T-Mobile (international) also may have negotiated the pre-orders of the US GS3 when they negotiated the pre-orders of the international version.

However, a T-Mobile spokesperson updated his statement to contradict Samsung: "Galaxy S III contains a different chipset than our competitors. Ours is the MSM8260 which does not support LTE, only HSPA."

I got that off of a cnet article. Its not the same chip.

If Tmobile is correct they are running an S3 chip not an S4

I have a hard time believing that, too. The Snapdragon S3 is a larger SoC and significantly slower than the S4 Krait. While there is a difference between the International and US SoC footprints, making a separate one solely for T-Mo USA seems asinine, as it (again) would require a different manufacturing process. Especially to put in a year-old SoC that doesn't perform nearly as well.

I would believe that T-Mo USA is purposely spreading misinformation so that their customers do not ask questions about LTE compatibility. My coworker that has the T-Mo USA GS3 is out of the office, but I'll ask him to look at his specs. I don't think a Snapdragon S3 would be able to keep up with the demands of the GS3. I have an Evo 3D (that uses the CDMA version of the chip - 8660) and there is no way it could run TouchWiz Nature UX.

And I moved our discussion to the T-Mo thread, it's more appropriate than the Sprint one.

You can move it, I only posted this to further back the internal rumor its a supply issue with the S4 processor, giving more credit to why t mobile was able to launch sooner. Let me know what your buddy says. Have him take it apart :)

LOL, I doubt that he'll go that far. I just plan on asking him to do a benchmark or two and run system panel or something else that can identify the chipset.

    Because there's no way it's a Snapdragon S3.

If you look on the qualcomm site or Wiki, S4 has many many variants depending on the GPU, radio it integrated. Some of them are named very confusing as it looks like old version number. I think the confusion/rumors are arising from the fact that Tmo GSII has S3 snapdragon MSM8260. And MSM8260A is the S4 Krait without LTE radio, which I believe is powering Tmo GSIII.

Also I saw several Tmo GSIII owners reporting Antutu above 6500, quadrant above 4500. It's impossible for S3 processor to get that kind of performance with HD screen.

According to the qualcomm site the galaxy note is running the s3. Even though they have the s4 listed as the chip for tmobile there specs only have the s3 supporting HSPA the s4 only supports lte. Ya its confusing. Good luck T mobile guys.

My coworker who has the T-Mo version just showed up. I looked at his specs and he has an Adreno 225, which is only present in the S4 Krait. The spokesperson is not correct.

Looks like Sandroid fan may be more correct, there are multiple variants of the Snapdragon S4. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snapdragon_(system_on_chip)

So it may not have LTE after all, but it is a S4 Krait :p
