From the popular brands - such as LG, Asus, Samsung, etc - which tablets have the best support for a Russian language user? I mean which user interfaces can be converted to Russian without rooting the device? And which devices have the best user manual written in Russian?

I do not need a whole lot of capability for the device itself, as it will be a platform for web browsing and maybe using Youtube. I will use WiFi only, and I do NOT want a built in cellular capability.

A related question: is there any reason I should not buy the device in the US and then send to my friend in Russia? In other words, are there strong reasons why the device should be purchased in the local market, even if you are only using WiFi?

I have been to Russia a few times, and I do have some Russian friends, and my favourite airline for going from China to the UK and back is Aeroflot :)

Android itself and I'm sure most mainstream apps do support Russian(Cyrillic) no problem, no need to root, modify and hack, you just go into the language settings and select Russian. As for best manual in Russian, I think unless the device was specifically intended to be sold in Russia. Many devices like Asus, LG and Samsung, come with printed manuals written in many languages, but they usually only cover the basics, like how to turn it on, where things are, and product safety stuff. The major manufacturers usually have pretty good online or PDF documentation for their tablets however, including Russian.

Just about all tablets have WiFi, so should be no problems there. :thumbsupdroid:

Maybe cost, I do believe that tech products bought in Russia can be rather expensive when paying in roubles. Rouble devaluation became so bad, Apple suspended all domestic Russian sales for a while, and then re-priced everything at around 50% more. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_financial_crisis_(2014–2017)

Warranty might be a problem, A device bought in the US, may have to be sent back to the US for any problems that require warranty service. Also updates as well, especially Samsung, they tend to be rather regionalized. Google Nexus devices should be OK for updates, but again possibly no service support in Russia if the device was imported from the US. I know Lenovo are widely available in Russia, and their tablets are fine.
