    I’ve grown accustomed to having my threads ignored --it’s my breath -- but I would truly like an answer to this one...

    I don't think Tasker could do exactly this, because it doesn't have an ability to detect presses of the volume rocker. If you wanted to consider using some other way of telling Tasker to do what you want, you have to figure out if the Take Call and End Call actions work on your device/firmware. On my Bionic, End Call appears to work, but Take Call does not. Tasker can detect this and make the actions unavailable if they won't work, but it's difficult to say if it will work without trying it on your specific device.
