Taskiller not Killing!

I downloaded taskiller and dont really know what im doing. The Icon just climbs from 1 to X. How do I kill these tasks and get my CPU usage down?

I have a similar query, I'm not sure what i'm doing with the application tbh

Every time i look at the widget the usage jumps from 1 to about 4, i click kill... a few minutes later i'm back at the same stage
