This battery charger is interesting because it uses versatile & non proprietary AA batteries. Tekkeon - TekCharge MP1550, emergency power, emergency battery
The specs indicate that it's maximum output current is 800mA and should not be used on devices needing more than this.

I looked at the bundled HTC charger and the following is written on it
    Input:100-200V, 200mA
    Output: 5V, 1A

So it seems the charger is not compatible?

The compatibility list on the web site suggests it's not compatible. The Desire Z/G2 isn't mentioned but the Incredible, Evo 4G, Droid 2 & Nexus S are all listed as "nc".

However... the DZ charges without issues on either a 5V/500mA USB 2.0 port or a 5V/1A mains charger, so why would an 5V/800mA charger using the same interface cause problems? I don't get it.....

Meanwhile I did some search on the internet. I find that Chargers with an output of 300mA do charge the HTC HD. BTW I have a charger using only 1 AA battery & delivering a max of 300mA perfectly charges the Desire Z.

Maybe the DZ is not mentioned as it is a newer phone and the compatibility list has not been updated? Otherwise, it would have been mentioned as not compatible.

It will likely work, but expect charging time to be slightly longer.
