You've already gone over and beyond. The Rom manager backup is the same thing as a nandroid backup. Good job though on being safe rather than sorry.

Leave the clockwork backup folder on your phone/sd card. Otherwise you'll have no backups :p

You can make a copy of it on your PC in case your SD bunks out.

When you want to do a restore, your going to navigate in clockwork to "restore" and then you'll be presented with all your backups. They are named by date (unless you changed them) and you'll choose the restore point you want restored

I copied and pasted so I should have a copy both places but I will check

also if i ever needed to restore ( ie a wipe for a new rom or whatever) how do i go about that? clockworkmod?

Yup. That's how I do it and I do a full wipe (wipe data, wipe cache partition, and under "advanced" wipe Dalvik cache) for every new ROM although some don't and have no issues.

that just makes me nervous, trusting that I did everything correctly,

I am interested in virtuous (b/c I really do like Sense) which I don't think requires a wipe but I gonna need to do more reading before I take that big of a step

I'm using Virtuous, when I first went to the ROM I did do a wipe (just to be safe although I don't think its required), after that though, The Virtuous developer is normally VERY good about making sure his updates don't need a wipe. I've upgraded through 2-3 versions without a wipe.

note: if you do decide to go to a non-sense rom, a wipe is almost always needed with them.
