You don't wanna do that. Even our current "unlimited" plans have somewhat of a limit once you hit 5 gigs in a month.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's likely that in the end you'll still get the same usage and will pay about the same (or maybe even save money) with the pricing structure that they set up.

No they dont. I've gone over 5 gigs a few times and nothing.

Keep going and I'll laugh at the bill you will receive when you do get caught.

    Unlimited means unlimited....

The 5 gig limit is for the mobile air cards that you use with a laptop or netbook. The phone does not have a limit for data if you have the unlimited plan. Hope this helps.

To clarify my previous post. Obuttu is right, tethering is a violation of your TOS. Verizon seems to ignore it, but I think it is like speeding. You can drive 5 - 10mph over and the police ignore you, but go too fast and your screwed. This is IMHO only.

I will admit I have not read the whole contract but does not our contract work both ways? I just signd up this month for an unlimited data plan (on phone only) for two years, imo that Should grandfather me in with the unlimited plan no mater what verizon does. 2 years from now is a long time in technology who knows what will be happening then.

As for teathering up until I got my droid I was a paying for the 5gb/month teatherer on my v750, I am working away from home for a few months and the rental I have has never had an internet connection,

on three seperate visits to the local store I was told By the salespeople not to worry about paying for teathering. One even mentioned pdanet by name. Yes the contract holds over what a sales person says but considering that verizon does not even offer teathering with the droid to capture income from those like me who would would pay for it if they could I don't. Think the are going to start a witch hunt for us droid teathers,

When they do start offering payed teathering on the droid that certainly could change. It is not in verizons interest to ponce on its customers with with a seversl hundred dollar bill they will make much more money by getting you to sign up for much more reasonable monthly services that you find useful.

but what your not getting is that "unlimited" was never truly "unlimited" - it had a seldom known and advertised cap.

When I look at my current plan description it says unlimited, the testher service I was paying for was capped at 5gb/month,

Is there any documentation that says diffrent?

As stated above, data on the phone is UNLIMITED. skilaufen and many others have gone over 5GB without an issue. If you're using a backdoor tethering program, you're using phone data so there is no cap. If you use VZW's mobile broadband, you are subject to the 5GB cap.

The article in the OP is referring to 4G/LTE. Since we don't have LTE yet there's nothing to worry about now. It also says that they're "looking at" it. That doesn't mean it's necessarily going to happen, though other carriers have been talking about a tiered data plan system as well.

My friend that has a Droid always is over the 5gb limit. He says he regularly uses about 14gb per month and no additional charges at all.

Streaming data like Pandora or internet radio can eat up data pretty quickly

Call #data -- then you get a text from verizon sent to your Droid

It tells you how much data you have used so far in the billing cycle.

You can do #data as suggested or just navigate your phone to the verizon website on the browser. Of course it can be done on the phone :)

look at your online screen for data usage under your verizon account. mine says unlimited. it doesn't say that for the wireless air card. If it says unlimited it is unlimited. the tos for the air card says it has a 5gb limit per month then there is a cap. what else needs to be said.
