Help tether..vpn??? unrooted spirit...help

I got a laptop and tried to tether, or so i thought!! Tried foxfi, tried the hotspot that is with phone, and a fw other apps...but cant stay connected! I read in one of the threads about vpn and doing it that way....i have no idea what this is, or how to use it!? Could use all the help i can get! Guess this phone is smarter then i am....wondering if i should trade down...lol..any help will be appreciated as usual! :thinking:

what do you mean by can't stay connected? Usually if you aren't getting 4g the tether app will shut off.

OMG! I'm no longer a tether virgin! :congrats:

I never could get it to work on my Motion after that one undate. (F?)

I think I only tried it one other time on my Spirit, I got connected but with no access as I recall.

I use Chrome on my Laptop.
I added the Ultimate User Agent Switcher add on to that.
It took me several tries to see the (DUH!) "tether" option for the spoofed addy for Ultimate User.
Used the native tether app and connected right away.
Crappy speeds but sufficient for minor surfing and full site formatting.

WooNHoo! At least I know it works on this phone.

Thanks finally to all yall too. I've read a freekin' book here on how to tether and could never get it to work til now.

Runnin a SpeedTest on your Laptop and seeing the network as MetroPCS Wireless on it is pretty trippy man. :rock:

My phone says im on 4g...but the laptop says no...also a notice comes invalid ip address...theres another message that pops up...but of course as im tryin to wait for it, it aint

The agent switcher is a Chrome browser add on that you add to it. Then within the switcher add on you tell it what to "mimic" when it connects to your phone. If you don't want stuff in mobile format you have to mimic something not in that format.

Wow. It didn't dawn on me until I checked that (apparently) if you use the native hotspot App that it's kind enough to keep that all your tethered data all nice and tallied up in your data usage area.

I guess that could be good or bad depending on if the Mothership saw it. :D

i tether on my indulge and then on the spirit when i switched to it. Ultimate User :Agent Switcher " is an add-on or extension for chrome web browser, what it does, it tells to whatever website your opening/visiting what format to display, i.e phone mode , tablet mode, pc mode etc etc. Apparently , mpcs blocks all tethering traffic from the phone when is set to be displayed in PC format (user-agent-pc). However it is set by areas, some areas allow you to tether without the need to change the user-agent. In my own experience, at first i had to use a user-agent to connect my pc in tablet mode to my phone in order for metro pcs to believe my phone was doing the surfing on the internet. A few months ago i found out i have no need to change the user-agent any more.
Also if you are using the LG spirit, root and install recovery and install katana or icy spirit both rooms are the stock ICS and have the stock HotSpot app installed which works right out of the box with no need for you to try different apps from the play store.

After the last update didn't everyone's native hotspot app stop working?

I sure thought I remembered that. Mine sure did.

the metropcs hotspot app included on non-rooted stock phone is also included on katana and icy spirit. it has been modified to work on the phone without the need to get the service from metropcs (the 10$extra) and it is working fine to me as well.

Sorry...when i get home, nothin works...so...i get a message saging lgautorun.exe i guess its no good cause it wants to send an error report. I dont know where to look up my os....sorry

When i turn on the computer it says windows xp...but i just got a windows security alert asking if i still wanted to block Microsoft manager?? Also lgautorun.exe has encountered a problem keeps poppin up! I would like to root but im a real dummy, as u can tell when it comes to understanding how...still needin help if its still available and i haven't scared to many away!

Did you read the rooting instructions?

the lgautorun is just for when you connect your phone through usb so you can transfer files.

to fix the lgautorun download the drivers and install them: https://app.box.com/shared/32c5t7fj2w8xcwr0krjo

Calm calm calm. A simple mistake. We know motion and spirit are close but not that close. Third for fourth cousin removed. LoL. :p

I feel your pain. It must be terribly difficult for you being omnipotent and mistake less and having to put up with us mortals.
