Open text messaging > Hit menu > Settings > Scroll to the bottom and select "Select Ringtone"

Internal memory > media > audio > notifications (create the folder if it's not there) > Place your ringtones there...

You can access it through your phone if you start with "My Files", then "Media", etc.

i also used ringdroid to save the mps and label it a notification - as soon as i did that it showed up in the list.
