I have read and spoke with Motorola and as of now there is no way to change font size for texting. This is a deal breaker for me being over 50 and trying to read very small font size.I have had Motorola Droid for 1 week and will return within my 30 day trial period. I have read about Open Home App.but not sure if this will work.

I'm using chompSMS & I can change font size within its settings.

Handcent SMS is another alternative to native Messaging app & I bet you can change it there as well, but I'm not using it so don't know for sure.
