Text message notifications

I can't seem to get a consistent notification set for text messages. I have the vibration set and a tone (ding dong) set, as well. I feel iget the vibration each time but the tone seems hit and miss. Shouldn't be that hard but I'm obviously doing something wrong. Thaks for any help.

Try rebooting your phone and see if that helps. Is your notification volume turned up?

Are you using the default text messaging app that came with your Galaxy A12 or a third-party alternative texting app?
It might be a matter where there are two places to check, the Notifications menu in the Settings menu, and the text messaging app's Settings menu if it has its own notifications options.
