I want to thank everyone on these boards for the MASSIVE support, help, and advice i've received over the last year here. I've learned so much about my evo and would have never done it without you guys. I flashed an AOSP Rom the other day and fell in love and decided to go out and buy the Nexus S. I will miss my EVO, it's the best phone i've ever had. I'll have to play with my gf's when I get the urge. But just wanted to say Thank you to you all here! This is a great board with great users, truely one of the best! Until we meet again!

    Blessings,
    Cyaiphone

Sad to see users go. Drop in and let us know how that Samsung treats you, I've never been a Samsung fan so I'm curious. Good luck bud.

i played around with the nexus s and it is a nice phone. i just never had any luck ith sansung, especially when i had the first and second instinct. both phones sucked and did not have any support from sprint or samsung as far as updates go.

well i hope that all goes well for you. yeah let us know what you think of the phone. and yes if you get bored you should root your gf's phone. lol

Thank you bud! You're an asset to this board! Always so willing to help a member out. I've never experienced a samsung phone so I'll let you know. I've heard a lot from both sides in regards to Samsung.

Well I like that the nexus is fully supported by Google and not sprint or another company. I actually rooted my phone and my gf's phone the same day. She loves her phone. I asked her about going with nexus or evo 3d and she gave me a look like why would I do that. She has no desire for a new phone her evo satisfies her more than I do i think. she's on mikfroyo with the pink theme.

I have had some bad results as well with samsung phones(first instinct and epic) and none have been up to par for me. That is now to say however that they would not be perfect for another person. Good luck with your new phone! Drop in any time to say hi!

I was skimming through posts today and just read that part. I was happy for you until I saw that in your post you were actually giving up the Evo. Oh well...

well my one and only experince (other then my lab top) with samsung was when I rooted a phone for a buddy of mine... and the root file I downloaded gave me a big fat Trojan.

its now a week later and I have finely got my pc back under my control. not saying that this came from samsung but a bad omen for me none the less

Add me to the list of users that likes the Nexus but doesn't trust Samsung one bit. The one I tried out at the Sprint store was wicked fast, but the tech said hers bogs down bad with any kind of app load on it, and she liked her Evo better. Those Google updates sure sound good tho.

Take care, friend, I enjoy your posts and will miss them.

Sounds like the Nexus 3 will be a HTC phone or possibly a LG

I hope I don't regret it either! Not only is evo Great but so are the members of this forum!

Didn't give up on it. I just feel in love with AOSP :(

I've seen both arguments pro and con for samsung. I guess i'll have to find out what luck I get. I went with the nexus for these reasons.

    NO bloatware
    pure google AOSP
Guaranteed software updates when before others
    free wifi hotspot
    NFC
    and hoping for better battery

Another thing was i was able to get it for $99 instead of having to pay $350 for the evo 3d.

I also have yearly upgrades on my account so i figured this time next year the dual core phones will be at full force.

Thank you bud! I hope it doesn't get bugged down. If i'm not satisfied I will return phone within 30 days.

another request for help....Before I let the phone go, how do I make sure I wipe everything? Do i just do a factory reset and wipe the sd card? or should I actually go into recovery and wipe data, cache and davlik?

If your Evo is rooted, a factory reset and wiping cache is not enough; you'll need to unroot it. Instructions and procedures for unrooting are in the ROOTING for Dummies Guide. When I exchanged my phone, the tech checked carefully for signs and/or traces of root. There are other threads with posts that discuss getting busted for rooting and account records updated to reflect that the phone was permanently ineligible for service or exchange. I'd also suggest removing any root apps or folders (Titanium Backup, ROM Manager, ShootMe, etc, from your card, as well as any files that you copied as part of rooting or unrooting (PC36IMG, recovery images, etc). In my case, I'd upgraded my SD card prior to rooting, so before I exchanged, I put the old card back in, which was free of any signs of root.

Are you sure the Nexus has NFC?

with all the ranting and raving that there once was with the nexus, id be quite curious to see what your experience is with it... esp since you have somce considerable experience with the evo. Let us know homey :)

hey guys so here are my impressions on the nexus. I've had it for 2 days now.

    • Pure google is very smooth, responsive, and pretty nice!
    • The camera seems to be better than my evo's
    • The screen is great!!! Much better than the evo's
    • The battery life has been pretty good, but not amazing, better than the evo. I think it'll get better once i get over the fact i have a new phone and stop playing with it so much
    • I was a little worried about the screen size but not anymore. The phone fits perfectly in your hand and it has a curve to it that feels really comfortable when you hold it
    • It's very, very light, but feels very well made. I held my gf''s evo and it now feels like a big brick lol
    • Either it's the call quality or the speaker but the calls are much clearer and louder on the Nexus
    • Phone boots very fast waaaaaaaaay faster than the evo
    • the power button is on the side and very responsive. doesn't take much to press it. I used to hate having to use my index finger to turn off and on the screen. using the thumb feels alot more natural and alot easier. The volume buttons also seem to be well made.

    • One thing I really missed at first was the T9 dialer, but a quick download of "mydialer" has fixed that.
    • I turned my phone off yesterday and when I tried to reboot, it just stayed on the boot animation screen. never fully booted. I pulled the battery and haven't had the problem since
    • My phone showed that i had Youtube app installed but wasn't showing up in my app drawer. I had to go into system apps and reinstall and it fixed my problem.
    • I really miss the 4g section of these forums. The nexus s forums are not to great and the rooting section of the nexus s is not very helpful. The rooting for dummies thread that was made here made the evo rootable by anyone no matter the knowledge they had. Their section is a little disappointing. I'm almost scared to try to root the phone I'm not sure i get their "easy root" method lol I find myself browsing xda and sprint users forum more now.

Overall I think I'm pretty happy with the Nexus. It seems to run great and the phone itself seems to be made and designed very well. feels very natural in the hand. I think i'm going to have to hang around here and just chit chat with you guys since the nexus s forum isn't as fun as this one.
