I am now grateful to Apple, because if they hadn't made such a POS phone, my wife wouldn't want to head out today and exchange the clunky 5 for the S3. Of course, Samsung deserves credit for making such an awesome phone to begin with, that we even have this option.

My wife loved her iPhone 4, but sold it 2 months ago in anticipation of getting the 5. So, I had my old Galaxy S2 laying around and she began using that. I bought the S3 via pre-ordered, so she has seen what I have done with it since June. In other words, she knows the S3 is good, its light and has an easy to read screen. The S2 was just her entry into Android. Not the best phone but I installed ICS on it, so it had all the features.

Flash forward to a few days back and we pre-order the iphone 5 for her and it comes in the mail via FedEX. Box is in perfect condition, so no abuse occurred during shipment. We open everything up, unbox the phone and first thing we notice is an oil or liquid stain burned into the back plate. Then a knick on the side plate. And then a couple of scratches. She is pissed, but figures she will have it all covered anyway, so she can live with those issues.

She proceeds to set the phone up without using her iMac and itunes, but then decided she wants to move all the photos from the S2 over to the iphone. So she plugs in the S2, clicks and drags all the photos to a folder on the desktop, no problem. Plugs the iphone into the iMac and drags all the photos to itunes from the desktop and just like that, entire phone gets reset to factory settings. That sucked, but not a big deal, since there wasnt much on the phone yet. She applies her last backup from a couple's months back and rest of the installation goes smoothly.

So now she has the phone set up and apps loaded and begins using her iPhone for the next 24 hours. We both find lag in scrolling down long lists with graphics, touch sensitivity is not as good as the iphone 4 and no where close to the S3 and she is now making comments about trying to read on such a tiny screen and that she misses the 'back' button. I told you so, is the phrasing my mind is thinking of, but instead ask her what she wants to do? She says she wants an S3. I said, let's go to at&t. And we lived happily ever after. So scratch one iphone sale and add another to Samsung's S3 tally. :D

Thank you Apple for showing the world why you have chosen to litigate over innovate. I would have as well, if I knew I was putting out a junk iphone. Maps was kind of the icing on the cake. I hope Apple loses a ton of customers and it stock price plummets. They need that chip knocked off their shoulder.

I'm expecting the same experience. The wife is about to sell her Rezound and wants an iphone. She was po'd at me for talking her into Android last time around. Now we'll get to see if the grass is greener on the other side. I'm thinking return trip = imminent.

I had a similar experience. My wife had the iPhone 3gs, went to an infuse then back to an iPhone 4s. The galaxy s3 came out and she wanted to ditch her iPhone and go back. Now she has her s3 and I offered the iphone5 and she laughed it off.

I can do you one better. I can not even move my wife off of a non-smart phone. She does not even want to text, but fears she will have to since our son is 14 :).

She wants to have as little exposure to technology as possible :). This is coming from a woman that flew satellites for a living. She also dislikes watching TV which leaves the remote free "ALL" the time :). She would much rather read. Her laptop is a necessity (and so is Facebook) for her school and saving money.

She likes it that way. Kind of funny that she lives with a gadget geek that not only likes all this stuff but also lives/works with it daily.

Funniest part of all this is she fully knows the capabilities of my S3 (she has seen me use it often) but is more than happy asking me to find where to eat, or the nearest gas station, or send checks in electronically, check in to get discount, ...

Well, just got back from AT&T with a new blue S3 (for me). My wife wanted a white S3 and they were out of stock, so she is taking my S3. I wanted the blue one anyway, so all is right in the world, and I have a happy wife again.
Time to go root and install Google Wallet on my new pebble blue S3. Thank you all for your comments and likes.

I'm not normally into conspiracy theories but the riots and the damaged Iphones are just way too much of a coincidence. You have to wonder how Apple would react if it was found the damage was deliberate? There'd be lawsuits flying thick and fast!

My wife had my HTC Desire when I upgraded to the SG2. Now I have the SG3 she has my SG2. She is completely non-techy but loves showing her iphone toting friends what her SG2 will do.... she is now making noises about wanting an SG3, so I'm hoping I can hold her off till the SG4 comes out or it's going to be Note 2 time for me :)

Why can't you both have a GS3? Why is your wife only allowed to receive your hand-me-downs? You know there's such a thing as gender equality these days. And in case it's a financial thing, isn't the Note 2 more expensive than the GS3?

    "...allowed to have..."

That's a bit of an assumption on your part there.

It's nothing to do with hand me downs or "gender equality". She has a 1 month rolling contract on Orange for

Gender equality also says that wives can, indeed should, buy their own.

jerofld Fixing stuff is not easy

In all likely circumstance, she got a defective unit and not one of the normal operating iP5s. But we'll keep that between us.

That is entirely possible, however, the issue with the black lines on the keyboard seems to be pretty widespread on all the various iphone 5 iterations, but not on the iphone 4 or 4s running ios6, so has to be related to cpu or gpu. Don't know if a software patch would fix that?
I also can not excuse scratches, knicks and a non-removable stain on a brand new iphone. Nothing defective with the phone there, just crappy QA.
Out of all the Apple crap I have bought over the years, not a single item has been in anything but perfect shape coming out of the box. I really think this is systemic with Jobs gone. Crappy UI, phones coming from the factory in bad shape and now the apology from Cook regarding Maps and actually putting up links on the App Store to Google Maps. Talk about getting punched in the face. Now if we could get them to stop suing everyone for stupid shit. While I agree with the rubber banding feature and the G1 looking like an iphone, which deserved a heavty fine and banning of the G1, that should have been it. Okay, sorry... rant over.

Good luck to you sir. Check the edges and the back aluminum plate carefully. That is where the issues are. The glass front is actually pretty tough and I highly doubt it needs a screen protector. You may also want to have a case cover ready when the iphone gets there. These scratch really easily on the back. My wife had to wrap her's in a cloth when it went in her purse. Now, with the S3, no worries.

I dont know what your talking about.
    YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

In this video the guy is basically trying to scrape the back with his keys and the keys did absolutely nothing to the anodized coating and it looks pretty tough to me. there is something most likely wrong with your wifes i5 i suggest you go return it and get a replacement for free
