ROMs are personal preference. you will get 10 different answers to this question. it is very simple to flash a rom and try it. also, a simple nandroid will take you back to one you know you like if you don't one.

my 2 fav's are white widow for non-sense, and aloysius for sense.

Cyanogen tazz v.5 is sweet for some Froyo action.

Here are the ROMs I have tried

Evil Eris 3 = Fast, Great Battery Life

Suave Smush = Fast, So So Battery Life, Can't send Pic Message

Droid Does = To many issues

Cyanogen Tazz V5 = Fast with good battery life

Currently running CELB Froyo 1.6 as I just flashed it about 10 mins ago.

The entire xtrROM series has been very successful, emphasizing speed and stability (so fast that many users see no need to overclock).

My default has been an xtrROM version for weeks now, although I do flash and test many others, especially the various 2.2 ROMs around.

I highly recommend xtrROM version 3.0.3.

The developer has a 3.1 beta out now; here's the page with all versions:

    [ROM-BETA] [7/30/2010] xtrROM3.1 [apps2sd,jit,lwp,nav,oc]-Vanilla that embraces HTC - xda-developers

If I understand right, this one removes the HTC Clock/Weather widget. Is that right? It sounds like a good ROM but I actually like the weather widget on my home screen...

Also, what's your opinion of Plain_JaneT2?

That was the only ROM that I've flashed that has failed to load at all.

I've seen a few posts around reporting the same thing, although most seem to run it with no problems.

There are too many out there for me to struggle with a ROM, so I moved on.

I was attracted to the idea of trying a deodexed ROM.

If you use XtrSense you keep all the sense stock widgets which is what I use because of the clock/weather and calendar widgets. No need to overclock this ROM either.

I just read this post xtrSense - HTC Droid Eris Forum and it sounds like there are some serious issues with XtrSense.

By the way, what makes it so you don't need to overclock?

I saw that. Just wondering what makes it so fast. Does it have to do with the JIT compiler?

I'm sure that is a big factor.

But other ROMs enable jit yet aren't quite as fast in my experience as xtrROM releases.

I noticed it big time coming off of the Tazz Froyo ROM and back to my default. It makes 2.2 lovers irked, I've noticed, but yes, there are 2.1 ROMs out there faster than 2.2. ;)

I was really liking the xtrSense ROM, until I just realized I have the Silent Bug on it...

I just flashed 3.0.3 and like it so far. I cant for the life of me figure out how to change my lock screen wallpaper. I am using launcherpro, any idea?

I ran KaosFroyo for a few weeks and liked it, but it started to slow down a fair amount. That on top of the native camera not working and being stuck with the shitty Photo Gallery that loaded slowly and couldn't go into landscape mode...

Tried Evil Eris for an afternoon and hated the graphical glitches and typical Sense slowness.

Finally tried XtrROM and I've been on it for weeks and I still love it. I also use LauncherPro because I don't like the look of Vanilla Eclair. I love that the Sense dialer is actually lag-free! It's super fast, and I think the only lag issues I ever experience are related to LauncherPro.

I tried it on Frisco's recommendation. I'm glad to see he's still sticking with the same ROM.

Would I need to wipe SD:ext partition before flashing this ROM if I have plain jane 2.0 installed? I believe it has the most up to date a2sd settings also. If so, do I need to re-do the sd partition or is that done only once?

    Frisco =Luceat Lux Vestra=

I haven't wiped the SD:ext partition since I found that it was not needed for flashing new ROMs unless the ROM developer specifies doing that in his instructions for flashing. The "factory" and "dalvik" prepare the way for your installation free of remnants of the previous one.

Once your sd card is partitioned it remains that way until you re-partition it; flashing a ROM has no effect on that.

Actually, I think this may be exactly what I'm looking for. I think I'll give it a try.

I believe that it is this:

Go into the photos app. Pick a photo that you want, long-press, choose "set as", then choose lockscreen.

Plain_JaneT2 is the first rom I flashed. I liked it, but it ran to slow. Even when I OC'd it would take 30 seconds to a minute to place a call. I had some time this past Saturday and decided to try out another rom ... I chose XTR 3.0.3 based on Frisco and others recomendation, I love it. I use LauncherPro, so it looks the exact same as Plain_JaneT2 did to me. I have apps2sd working, JIT is turned on, and am not OC'd ... its far farster than Plain_JaneT2.
