I am sorry my friends, but the time has come. I suppose it has been a good run, but Verizon has stopped selling the Motorola Droid.
As you can see by going to Verizon's Smartphone Listings, the Droid is not listed, and has been replaced by the Droid 2. While a new "better" phone comes out, our phone shall be remembered as the phone that brought the Android operating system to the mainstream, the first phone that could truly be called and iPhone killer. DROID DOES WHAT iDONT!

Even though Motorola and Verizon state that the Droid 2 is better than the original Droid, our phones outspeed theirs with a maximum overclock of 1.3ghz, it has been able to be used as a mobile hotspot when they say it could not, and this phone has stayed true to Android in being an open device.

We shall remember the Droid as an amazing phone, and I believe it will go down in cell phone history.

How long the Droid was on sale:
    278 days.... from November 6th, 2009 to August 10th, 2010.

Or 9 months, 5 days excluding the end date

    Alternative time units
278 days can be converted to one of these units:
    24,019,200 seconds
    400,320 minutes
    6672 hours
    39 weeks (rounded down)

Because of this sad day, feel free to share your favorite moment with your Droid, and how it has been a huge impact on the cell phone industry.

Dell still has some on their site also... But for the most part its life has been cut to make room for the third generation Android devices...

    Welcome to the Android Forums!
And where are you from? Because the Droid is gone for me and my friends around the country, and I can't even get onto droiddoes.com

Maybe you should try clearing your cache.

No cache to clear - never visited the VZW site on this browser (Firefox 4beta 4 pre - brand new profile, so I know there is no cache to delete).

    I live in Georgia....

Interesting. I'm in MA and my friends around the state, Florida, California, and Texas don't see it.

I'm in a smaller metropolitan area south of Atlanta (if you can call this area metropolitan).

So it is not surprising that there may in fact be some here.

Interesting. Has anyone been able to get on the DroidDoes site? Because earlier when I tried clicking "Buy Now" for the Droid, I got basically a 404 error on Verizon's site.

Maybe Verizon doesn't like me :(

It just loaded perfectly fine here.

Pete said he is building 0.5 and it will be as awesome as the previous ones with more stuff.
Then he is gonna do something different....

hardware wise the Droid 2 is a better phone. I would be willing to bet that it eventually will overclock more than 1.3ghz. Overclocking is happening for the DX already albeit in a limited manor at this point.

Or was it a typo.... ;)

Sorry guys, guess it is a semi-false alarm. But I did call my local Verizon store and they said that they are not going to be receiving any more shipments, which I expected.

I can see them, I got the flash intro to droiddoes.com but it didn't do anything else if it's supposed to.

My favorite moment was the first time i rooted and got DarkEdge on it!!! Darkedge was the reason i rooted but have not rooted since first release of darkedge for 2.0.1 because i have had 9 replacement and grew tired of having to keep loading everything back on my phone... =(..might try it again soon as soon as i get 2.2
  22. Yeah well they did come out with the droid 2 so why keep the droid around when it isnt compatible with 3.0 anyway
