    The Four-Word Song Lyric Game

    So here's the idea/rules:

Post four words that in order appear in a song's lyrics. Such as "sage, rosemary and thyme."

The first person to correctly identify the song (in this case, "Scarborough Fair") wins that round and then posts their own four words.

Here's the catch: while you can use "other sources" to pick out your four words (and you should, since people sometimes remember lyrics incorrectly and that would make it kind of difficult!), it's not fair for purposes of this game to use another source to try to determine the song from someone else's four-word post. So no quick google/bing search just to "win" the round: it's got to be "all you". ;)

Now if you're clever (sneaky?) enough to pick something really obscure, so no one gets it, then come back in an hour or two and post the next word in the lyric, either front or back of what you already posted, such as "parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme" and if it's still not answered later, add another. If you get to six words, then also post as a clue the genre, "rap," "soul," "acid rock," "country," etc. (Hint: if you pick a rap song, I'll never 'win' that round...) :D

Obviously, the more obscure the song/lyric set you choose, the more challenging it will be. Staying with the example above, if you pick "rosemary and thyme" someone will get it straightaway...but if instead you chose "no seams nor needlework" it would likely take a while. :D

Final rule: If you pick lyrics that arguably apply to more than one song (hey, it happens) then people are going to guess and if they don't get yours, then reply with some encouragement (what does that word mean in this day and age, anyway?), add a word and kick in the genre as above.

Sound like fun? Okay, then, let's play.

Here's the first one to get us started:

    "A FIDDLE PLAYER TOO"

Hmmm...so does this mean no one wants to play, that it doesn't sound like fun, or that my clue was too hard?

Assuming it's just the latter, here's the next word, so it's

    "I'M A FIDDLE PLAYER TOO"

My answer was The Devil Went Down To Georgia that contains his lyrics.
My three word clue is weariness amazes me. If you want four... my weariness amazes me.

For some reason I had little doubt, Mr. olbriar, that you would nail my song...but as for me, I'm stymied by your lyricistical (nothing like making up a word!!) offering. May I ask for the genre and another word, with your indulgence?

Okay, I had to go listen to some Dylan songs to figure out it was Tambourine Man.

Apparently no one else thinks much of this game idea, so perhaps it's going to die a quick and painless death, but maybe it will occasionally find some use as a fun diversion.

That said, if anyone wants to play, these are the next four lyrics, and I'll include a hint, that this is an older song (60s), though there was a remake, also quite a while back:

    "Mister, can't you read?"

Thanks for playing and congrats, @kct1975, that's it. Back in the day, I had that song on a 45 by the Five Man Electrical Band and hadn't even known Tesla covered it around 1990.

So, you win the round...do you have four lyrics for us to continue the thread? ;)

You were very kind to post the opening four words, that helped a lot!

I think I also I posted quite a bit about it last year as it was the 40th anniversary. It's a sad tale and an amazing piece of song writing.

    "...saw all those pictures..."
