According to Google, as reported by Phone Arena, the Pixel 6 Pro will be getting features that the Pixel 7 Pro will have. So our 6 won't be too far behind the 7. The 7 will have a the newer Tensor G2 chip, but it isn't that much better than ours. And, if you read:

You will see what new features our phone is scheduled to receive.

As a previous owner / current owner of multiple "a" devices for me and my family, including two Pixel 3a's, a Pixel 4a, and a Pixel 6a, I can say they are in no way treated as an ugly stepchild. Despite having slightly lower specs than their unlettered brethren they are treated to the same loving OTAs and feature additions for years after purchase.
