The Note 2 will probably be my last Samsung phone.

I don't think they'll quit making android devices. They just want some fallback in case Google holds out on them in the future

Source on that was BGR. Friends don't let friends believe Boy Genius.

Samsung announced to shareholders a year ago, when the Motorola deal started being discussed, that they would stick to their own os production and not be caught with all their eggs in one basket.

Good plan, played great at home and was just saber rattling. This is keeping a shareholder promise with an insignificant regional os, which has always been part of their strategy.

Its nothing more than Samsung trying to protect itself.

If you haven't noticed, there's a bunch of startup OS's trying to get into the market. The fact that Samsung backs one of them doesn't have me worried

I think samsung will make a good phone experience if they did it on they're own. They make android experience better and I dont think they'll leave any gaps. But lets see what the future brings :)

Why would it be your last Samsung phone???

I'm saying it will "probably" be my last Samsung phone if they left Android. But who knows? I've been wrong before. 2 years ago I said I would not own a Samsung phone and look at me now eating my words with the Note 2.

I guess my statement should be - Let's see what the future brings. I suck at fore telling the future. :p

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Apple is Samsungs biggest mobile components account and it always makes me laugh how the two battle it out, and a little competition is good for all of us. I would also venture to say that all device makers are looking ahead. Not just Samsung. I bet they all learned a bit from RIM (blackberry) putting all their eggs in one basket. Google is a good example. Moving ahead with their devices, and own highspeed services. Yeah, I'm sure they're looking ahead and planning on the future.

Haha oh my. Things people believe and think when they read a silly article.

They might try a new operating system, but they will always keep android if it is in demand. If they don't people won't buy their phones.

They will always now supply phones with the software the public wants, if it's android, then they'll supply it with android.... if it's Samsung's own OS then it will be that.

If you didn't know already, Samsung have a few Windows phones, doesn't mean they will stop making android devices, or make a windows phone their flagship one.

You seriously need to stop believing every article you read and think logically as to why Samsung would ever jeopardize their popularity!

Wow, panic much? They'll continue to make Android until google drops it or something more popular comes out. Windows 8 phones have been surprisingly more popular than I expected, I actually have one friend that owns one. Now, I'm really popular, so that's one in a million, but more prevelant that Windows has been in 6 months.

It's all about not having all your eggs in one basket.

Many many things could happen to google and android over the coming years.... Makes sense for any manufacturer to have other products out there that they can fall back on. Developing them now makes sense.
