Just tweeted to @SFR_SAV to see if their 2.2 update for the Magic has some tone down functions like a smaller Flash, live wallpaper or not, etc.

Update is due out this summer so lets wait and see if the Magic lives up to is name.

EDIT: @SFR_SAV response was something along these lines "i don't have this info, wait and see".

Confirmed, I installed a few APKs already!!!

I still use the market, but some apps are only available elsewhere and I can use AndroidMate to backup my apps to APKs so next time I need to install them I don't have to re-download and consume bandwidth and time...

EDIT: Also, is there a way to turn off the sound it makes when it first turns on? Because when I am at school and rebooting my phone I don't wanna disrupt the class. Even if I have headphones in the sound still plays out the speaker...

Can I atleast make it come out the headphones or have it off when I am in class?

I talked to a csr the other day and they told me that Rogers hasn't even got 2.1 to test and customize it yet. Can anyone confirm this?
Was all the Roger's P.R. stuff to get us to settle down and hopefully forget what they had promised?
With us waiting this long and they still haven't got 2.1 to test why not just go with 2.2 since it uses less rom and would work on the magic, I read on the board here that a company in Europe released 2.2 for the magic.

I have been after @RogersMary and @RogersMiranda and I have not been getting any response. I did however get my review of the magic declined on the rogers site when I mentioned that rogers is not upgrading the software on this phone and they promised that they would.

Well they are upgrading its just that Rogers is taking soo much time to make it available. We still have no clue if Rogers even received the upgrade from HTC at the end of june. We don't even know if "testing" for this upgrade by Rogers as even started.

We don't know what they're up to, maybe you'll get a surprise or maybe just silence. For myself it hasn't mattered ever since doing my own upgrades last year. 2.1 is very stable and we're days away from a 2.2. What has concerned me are updates for my kid's phones and that damn data cutoff nonsense.

R still refuses to return my queries about the data cutoff so I'll not be renewing contracts business or personal. And since they are much too slow with updates I've now rooted and updated my kid's phones. I had wanted to keep them stock but when your 12 year old complains about lag and a lack of functionality because of 1.5 there is a problem. So before I started to hear about iJunk I've updated to 2.1 and now they're happy again.

bye bye Rogers. I'll ignore you the same as you ignore me.

    In my house.
I've sent lots of messages to Mary on Twitter with no response.

I just emailed her (and Miranda) directly, so we'll see what happens.

^^hehe. I'm waiting for stable. But do tell what's better than the excellent 2.1. I'm still amazed that my 2.1 is faster than 1.5, no lag, and has a lot more internal room left over for apps (no need for app2sd). Not to mention functionality that I need but not available in 1.5.

#1 thing I find is that the ROM runs faster even without over-clocking. I believe that it's faster at the stock speed than it was over-clocked to 633Mhz under 2.1. Adw launcher seams much smoother and more responsive than under 2.1 but that could just be because it's also a new version.

Still much stuff broken and certainly not ready for a daily driver but I trust that Cyanogen and his team will have everything ironed out sooner than later.

@RogersMary just sent out a tweet that Rogers has a Draft OS 2.1 upgrade from HTC in house. I'm not sure how long the testing will take at Rogers but I hope it's much more through than the E911 update was.

    Update

According to a second tweet the anticipated delivery to customers (us) is the end of August. Apparently even Google has to approve it (Not sure why)

Well they're too late and not believable. It always takes too much pressure to get a maybe answer. Already updated so doesn't much matter. They haven't answered my data question so I'm done with asking. They don't want us anyway which is ironic considering the capabilities of these devices.

So 2.2 is even faster? Interesting because my 2.1 is as fast as I could expect even at 576MHz. I have most animations and fluffy things turned off or tuned down.

Hi. After I got my Nexus, I gave may Magic to my wife (who doesn't know the difference between 1.5 or 2.1 but I want to move that line over to Telus.

Question: Will the Rogers update go out to that Magic even through it is on the Telus network (IMEI dependent) or will I have to insert a Rogers sim in it to get the update?

Better than nothing of course and huge thanks to GBD, mjschmidt and everyone who helped make this happen.

but End of August to get 2.1, which will be 7 months old by that point, when other providers have agreed to update their magics to 2.2....sigh

I don't understand how they continue to shit the bed on this so unbelievably spectacularly. If you knew it was going to take two months to test then tell us back in January. Why make us think we were getting it "by mid year"

How much testing did you do for ios4 rogers?

It's like they're actively trying to convince me to leave.

At first I believed them but when I saw other carriers in the States and here bring out the updates in a timely manner I realized that I was being played. I bought a Nexus, will soon take my old Magic over to Telus and I actively tell people not to deal with Rogers because of their attitude (not to mention the throttling of 3G speeds, I can never get more than 4 although they advertise way higher than that.)

So that sound isn't made when the phone it booted, but when the SD Card is put in and played if the SD Card is on at boot?

    Data cutoff?

If I would have had what your 12 year old has when I was 12 I wouldn't be complaining. I assume you pay the bill for them which is more than I can say...

You're not from around Rogers country are you? :) if you are then learn about that issue before changing roms, otherwise don't worry about it.

I was on two tin cans and a string when I was 12. And liked it.
I was grown up before 'computer' was something a person might consider for a home. And it had a whopping 1MHz and 4K of RAM. yes, 4 kilobytes. And liked it. just wait, these super phones and computers will look like junk to your kids someday.

Different world now. My kids must do well in school and do their chores to have the right to a phone much less a smart phone. However, one of the Magics is without a SIM but does fine on WiFI and VoIP. The other one doesn't have a data service, WiFI is plenty for now.
