The search bar atop each page

I am wondering IF the google search bar that is atop each page can be removed without rooting the phone.

I am not quite ready to root as I am still a bit nervous as to getting updates and such once I do that.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes you can remove it, but without rooting or downloading another launcher you won't be able to put anything there. To get rid of it go to settings>apps>all and look for google search, then disable it. That will get rid of it. To re-enable it, go to the same thing, then scroll all the way to the bottom and enable google search to get it back. Hope this helps.

And to add to the previous comment, you can install (without rooting) the free Go Launcher EX, which will allow you to use that space in many ways, including, but not limited to, a search bar on one or more screens.

Although I personally would recommend Nova Launcher for the ICS launcher replacement.
