Root Theme changer - trying to create new theme

Thought I might have a look at creating themes for the new theme changer in GV 1.0. Rather than start from scratch (for now) I've tried to modify an existing theme and compile it, so I did the following:

    • Downloaded the source for a theme from Cyanogen (github)
Created a new project in Eclipse by importing the theme source
Renamed the package changing references in android.mk, androidmanifest, theme and strings xml files
Altered .png files in the drawable-hdpi folder, amending the reference to these files in android.xml where appropriate
Compiled and signed the theme, exporting to apk (produced no errors)
Copied to SD card and installed

The theme appears in theme chooser, but when I try to apply it it says it has been compiled incorrectly and cannot be applied.

Not much to go on, but does anyone have any ideas what I could be doing wrong (apart from, probably, everything)?
