Have been concerned about possible burn in of the nav bar.
    Added a theme to my V40 today;
Black theme for LG V40 V35 G7 , developed by Nguyen Ngoc Giap.
It's one step closer to an all dark/ black look to my phone.

Also downloaded the Samsung Internet Browser to be able to use the
High Contrast Mode. I certainly wish that Google would add a dark mode to their apps.

I guess I should see what firefox has - never looked. Chrome surprising doesn't and nor does it follow system themes like you'd think it would.

However - where did you read about screen burn in issues. This is an OLED Screen and as long as they occasionally turn off - (which it would do when in your pocket, placed face down etc) then there is no burn in issue.

What can happen is burn out - in that using the same piece of the panel all the time vs other spaces can over time become dimmer than those around it. Now that I've seen. it takes years to do and often high intensity outputs. It's the reason the AOD moves to a few different spots with every cycle.

but it's not about burn in.

Burn in, burn out, whatever it's called, I don't like that the nav bar is white most all the time. Sure, I have the option to hide it, but I want it there. As long as it's black, it's not being affected.

I'm apt to try Mark's themes, but still going with the black. Just wish that Google would give the option to use them within their apps.

Can anyone tell me if there are major differences between the the dark theme from Nguyen Ngoc Giap and Mark Benzce? I installed the theme from Nguyen. When I compared it to the screenshots of Mark's theme, I couldn't see a difference.

Not sure of the differences or similarities. The Nguyen version simply happened to be the first one that I found, that was compatable.
Glad I did, too, he had a working version up and running within a couple days after the Pie upgrade.

I never used a dark theme before, but I can see how it would save battery life and possibly my eyesight. It is taking a little time to get used to it, but I like it.

    Nice to hear.
After the upgrade, when everything went white, my eyes hurt. They just couldn't handle the sudden change.

I'm still perplexed as to why Google hasn't pushed it's developers to add a dark mode on their own apps.

Google does a lot of strange things. I stopped trying to figure them out a while ago. But some of the things they do are very irritating. (I reviewed one of their apps saying it was the cause of a glitch in Android. They deleted the review 3 times. When I removed accusatory statement, the review stayed)

Yep, if you Google the benefits of the dark mode you'll find article after article on the benefits. Seems now that Apple is going to offer it as a system option in iOS 13, while Google only offers it on a select number of their apps.

Can't say anything bad about some of the mega companies. They control what you do when you're in their area of influence. Look at FB these days.

Yes I can. They still do inexcusable things. I can't stop them, but I can still criticize things like this:
238 Google Play apps with >440 million installs made phones nearly unusable
    https://arstechnica.com/information...million-installs-made-phones-nearly-unusable/

As I've gotten older, I guess I've become less afraid of rocking the boat. ;)

Well at least all Google did was remove your "Negative" reviews.

I questioned something over on FB and got barred from using it for 30 days. These big tech companies have their own ways of pushing their narrative.

I think that stinks. If Google cancelled my account, it would certainly interefere with my modus operandi, but I could manage. I certainly wouldn't want that to happen, but it wouldn't keep me quiet. I guess with all the things that I've had happen in my life, my definition of what's important has drastically changed. (Sorry for tone of this post, just a weird night)

I read all e-books with a black background and white text these days. Is that Dark-Mode?
If so FBreader works for e-books. Doesn't do anything for the rest of you device though.

FBreader calls it Night-mode or something very similar.

Dark mode, night mode, yes basically the same. Individual apps have been allowing dark/night modes which only control their apps. Themeing apps are geared to theme a particular device at the system level. It's looking like Android itself is making it more difficult with nav bar/status bar variables.
It will be interesting to see how Android "Q" handles it.
