Hi I'm new here so bear with me. I just talked my friend into buying a new Samsung galaxy nexus (HSPA+) and I was wondering what she (I) should do with it now. Any app download suggestions or anything else. and please do not suggest rooting, that is her decision and I will have no part in it.

I'm making the jump from my 3g iPhone to Droid and I'll be following this thread to see what kind of responses you get.

In the meantime, I have this one bookmarked http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-nexus/451199-top-5-apps-help-break-iphone-switcher.html

I'll be installing most of those apps, and if Google Wallet doesn't work out of the box, I'll be having a friend root it for me so I can use GW.

Other than that, lets hear it Droid-perts! (droid/experts, yea it was a reach, i know)

Lol haha. It does seem weird though she hasn't come into school today yet (I'm in grade 8).

wish i had that kinda money when i was that young lol
    congrats to your friend.
didn't look over the top 5 apps thread, but SMS pop-up is a good one for anyone who thinks they'll miss the "screen on text message preview" that's on the iPhone. not necessary, though, since there's a notification light.

Agreed. Find lost phones and wipe them if necessary.

If you have any intention to root the device or load custom kernels or ROMs, even if it's in the future, the first thing you want to do is:

    Code (Text):
    1.
    2. adb reboot bootloader
    3. fastboot oem unlock
    4.
This will unlock the bootloader and wipe all your user data (which is why I suggest doing it before you even populate the device with data).

Unfortunately, all the best backup apps require root, so it will hurt more the later you unlock the bootloader.

Make sure you get Light Flow. It'll sort out all the notifications on the phone

FYI- the "Droid" moniker is only used on *some* VZW Android phones. The Galaxy Nexus is not a Droid, nor are the vast majority of Android phones. Otherwise, it would be like thinking that anything with an "i" prefix is made by Apple.
