Couple of reasons... 1 - I fear the battery life is going to be as horrible as my current Evo. I am not sure I can go another two years reading forum after forum looking at roms and kernels to improve it. 2 - I was playing with a friends white iPhone 4 lastnight and was comparing it to my evo in comparison to thickness and fit/finish. I must admit the iPhone is a well built device. Sleek and sexy. Nice screen. Yeah, it's locked to hell, but after getting my iPad 2, I think I want to experience this on the phone again.
I am hoping today at wwdc they announce the iPhone 5 hoping with all I have it has a bigger screen.

Good. More inventory for the rest of us who'd rather not play for the other team.

Both of your concerns will be addressed before 3vo launch anyways.

Reviews will come out and you can find out if the battery life is as bad as the original.

And you'll probably hear more about iPhone 5 (or not) at WWDC anyways so you can decide if you want to wait till September.

If you're hoping that we'll talk you out of that notion and entice you back to the 3vo, it's more of an Android vs iOS issue for you. Not going to do that because as RedWingsFan said, it's more inventory for the rest of us :p

Lol, you're in an EVO 3D forum stating you'll pass on getting it. Sorry that just doesn't make sense to me. Enjoy your iphone and AT&T, lol. I for one would love great battery life, but I'm getting the phone regardless. I also am very happy with the fit and finish of the current Evo so no worries for me. Again g/l...

EVO 3D: Battery dies, no charger around? Swap with an extra battery
iPhone: Battery dies, no charger around? Too bad. You are screwed.

While the battery life of my current EVO isn't the best, I really can't expect much from a phone with a huge screen and the things this phone can do. It is like expecting a muscle car to get Hybrid gas mileage. Not going to happen.

So I just deal with it. That means when I'm at work, I'll make sure it gets charged before I leave for the day. When I go to bed, I plug it in. If I run out of juice and don't want to plug it in, I swap the battery out. You could get 2 batteries and an external charger for $11 shipped. Cheap insurance and has come in handy a bunch of times.

And tbh, none of the smartphones today can endure 2 whole days w/o charging, at least the way I use them. So I just charge them every night when I go to sleep. As long as the phone can last me through the day, I'm fine w/ it.

No need to be a bunch of pipes....Batt life is legitimate concern. I dunno if I can handle two more years of it.

I could have sworn from one of the early Sensation reviews that it got killer(Atleast a day heavy use) battery life.

And doesnt the EVO 3D have an even bigger battery? Battery should be good, atleast twice better than the EVO.

Actually battery life is my # 1 concern with the device (I too would like a smaller form factor but whatever).
    -
My strategy - wait for the reviews; if battery life sucks wait a month and get the sg 2 or moto phone (if it is any good); if battery life is good and no other major issues other than poor 3d then go with this phone.
    -
For me (personally) the iphone is not an option for the following issues:
    no sd slot
apple policy of forcing itune on the device and unreasonable user agreement to use itune
    closed system
    non-user replaceable battery
screen too small (might be fixed by iphone 5)
    -
Anyways tons of folks love the iphone and if you find the iphone is right for you then I strongly encourage you to buy one after all you are the one who has to use the device and NONE of these devices are perfect. They all have their flaws. It is just a question as to which flaws are more impacting to how you use the device.

(sd is a major issue for me because I have sets of video and it is easier to pick the set of sd cards I want to take on a tripe then to delete/add specific videos tot he device)

I highly doubt the next iPhone comes out with a bigger screen. Bigger screens take more power, as RWF said. I doubt Apple would want to risk the comparisons of significantly worse battery life going from iPhone 4 to nextPhone. They may make a bigger screen, but I also doubt it would be a 4.3".

I'm sure you'll snot the iPhone when you get it. I have the 3GS and I enjoyed it for the two years I had it (this month is the last on contract). I'm only really getting the Evo 3D because of the 3D and the fact that now I've seen Android grow, I actually think it's possible it will overtake iOS, but not anytime soon, maybe after a year, and after Ice Cream is out. I only say that because Android is on many devices and that keeps the software on top of the line phones, and Apple is kinda slow to upgrade, and they only do t once a year. Android gets newer hardware multiple times a year. But don't get me wrong, iOS is fantastic, just remember to jailbreak.

One more thing, get it on Verizon. ATT doesn't offer unlimited data anymore, I only have it because I had the plan before they got rid of it.

Not being a pipe, lol. The batterly life "horse" has had 15 lives beat out of him. Everyone knows about the battery issues of the OG EVO and ppl still want the 3vo. If it's not the phone for you don't get it. Get the Iphone if thats what you want. Just my $.02.

VZW is going to tiered data this summer, sometime. So I doubt the next iPhone will be on unlimited.

The Android camp can give you a lot of reasons why battery life isn't as good as an iDevice, and most of them would be valid. But I do agree that out of the box and in daily casual use, the battery life on iDevices are impressive. I can see why some people prefer less tinkering and just have a device that does a bit less but lasts longer. Apple puts user experience first, and often at the expense of customization and flexibility. That's really the fundamental choice the consumer has to make when considering the two camps. There are advantages and disadvantages to both.

While I tend to always put function over form, I appreciate aesthetics as well. There's no reason you can't have both. And therefore I can see the appeal of Apple's products. They have great form, and their function is good enough for a lot of people.

I actually think that the Iphone is going to come to Sprint this year. Dont really have a problem with it coming, as long as it doesnt bring tiered data along with it. It would be great for Sprint to offer 3vo, sg2, moto, nexus, and iphone. The more phones mean more options which will undoubtedly equate to more customers which is good for all of us as it should lead to more cash flow to build network.

I will never fully understand the draw of the Iphone. As I have never owned one I cannot comment extensively(My touch pod is the same thing). Sure it has a great build, good batt life(So would all androids if you stripped all the features that make them amazing). When the Iphone first came out I understood the draw it was a great idea, but with all the options of today how could you ever want a box with 1 button, no customization of any real value, and on and on. I'm no fan boy I understand the Android platform has it's weakness' large and small but in comparison I don't even see the 2 on the same level. Other than it having a half eaten apple on the back of it and marketing what is the draw anyone? OP?

I have owned both Iphone and Android powered devices. I equate and unjailbroken Iphone to being spoon fed baby food.

Android allows FULL customization out the box. And that's why I prefer it. I own an Ipad that is jailbroken and enjoy the battery and features but honestly if I couldn't have jailbroke it I never would have owned one. I enjoy CUSTOMIZATION!

Well, I have an Ipad, and I will admit that the major draw to me is the apps. Android has done a better job with their apps, but they still do not compare to the number of quality apps I can get with iphone (ipad). I think that the three things that make it a success are: the apps, ease of use, and marketing. While I am not a big fan of their closed OS, there are tons of people who have ipods, and this is where their success comes from. People are familiar with itunes and the ios software, and most people usually go with what they are comfortable or familiar with. Also, marketing is huge with Apple. I personally like to have both. I like my phone to be android and my tablet to be ios. A person can never have too many options.

There's no perfect phone, and happy customers are proof that the iPhone is effective and works for lots of folks. Here's hoping the next iPhone is better than the iP4 because improvements on either side of the iOS/Android fence drives healthy competition where we consumers are the real winners.

I posted the link here somewhere, some weeks ago, that the late 2011 date for the iPhone was retracted by the blog that started all that in the UK - remember that launch dates are rumor-prone regardless of brand.

If the 3vo battery life is anything like the improvement we have on the Shift or like that published for the Sensation, we're in for quite a treat. The proof only comes in the pudding.

If anyone else is having second thoughts on the 3vo, that's cool - this is Android where choice is good. Always ok to wait and get feedback from the other early buyers - and always ok to buy, try and return within 30 days to make sure the 3vo is the right choice for you rather than trust the interwebs for your needs.

Putty, whichever way you go, best luck and enjoy your new phone - as a positive contributor to AndroidForums.com, you'll always be welcome here regardless of your phone choice.

I can't think of a single thing left to discuss on this topic and would rather the thread not degrade to bad feelings or the ongoing iOS vs. Android war as these so often tend to do. If anyone disagrees with my next action, freely PM me or one of the other mods and we'll cheerfully reopen.

    /thread
