This is driving me nuts

I'm trying to find an app that will allow me to use my android phone as a remote for my android tv box. I've spent the past couple of hours looking and can't find anything that actually works. I found only 1 possibility, but you have to buy the server app for the tv box to use the client app on the phone. I'm not buying anything until I know it works with my equipment. Any suggestions?

What make and model of the phone, tv, and box?

Xperia XA Ultra, Sony normal TV (not flat screen - that arrives this week) and 2017 GooBang Doo T95X Android 6.0 TV Box. I was going to get ChromeCast, but it would have taken longer and I'm impatient

Check with the manufacturer or supplier of the T95X box, it may require some proprietary app that only they make.

I doubt it - it's a very basic box from a basic company.

Really? No one knows of any app that will do this? What about a sharing app that will allow me to launch Netflix on my phone and watch it on the TV? I've seen several sharing apps, but none has a solid enough reputation based on the reviews.
