Literally, I mean...I can point at a star and see what constellation it is in, play old school videogames, find a cheap hotel, locate a local watering hole, there is even a functioning metal detector....a ****ing metal detector people.

Well ... you had me until you mentioned the metal detector. Don't get me wrong, I think the DROID's the coolest thing since Eddie Van Halen's 'Eruption'. But I'm not so sure about that metal detector app. I'm more impressed with the Navigator, Pandora, SportsTap, Barcode Scanner, and the 130 or so other apps I have installed. ;)

Of course ... I do have A Steve Vai station, a Dream Theater station, King's X, Queensr

I know how you feel. I too am enjoying my Droids. However, I agree with the other posters. I don't think the secret service will be relying the droid's metal detector for protecting the president.

Of course, but it works. How many people can say they can play mario with their metal detector? Or metal detect with their mario player?

Funny, yesterday while driving around with my wife, I mistakenly said I was rebooting my computer but I meant phone and we both said..."same thing"

I then told her the same thing as the OP, this is probably the best gadget i've bought in a while and I have an ipod touch.

I have close to 140 apps. I just store them on my SD Card.

I have 3 movies, about 500+ songs and around 80 apps. I still have 9.51gb left out of 14.83gb.

How are you storing and running apps from the SD card?

Ordinarily I wouldn't help hijack a thread, but since this one's not exactly titled as technical (-and I have about 130 apps myself)...
-[Me, too! I wanna know this!

As for this being the greatest technogadget I've ever had, I have to say that I've never been so impressed with any gadget I've ever had before, and I'm a freak about this stuff. (The geeky exuberance is always there, just not the full wallet. ;) )
I'm glad I'm on holiday vacation, because I've been a completely unproductive schlep ever since I got this friggin thing. -I just can't put it down!

I built my own laptop from Dell parts. It was really nice and fairly up to date a few years ago when I did it. It was one of the first 17" WUXGA screened behemoths available at the time. I've always loved my laptop and am very proud to have built it myself. Now I could care less about it! I go to use it and catch myself reaching out to swipe the screen!:p

ASTRO File Manager will backup apps to the sdcard ... but you can't install them or run them off of there. Not unless there is a recent root hack that I'm unaware of.

You can install apps to and run them from the sd card if you have rooted your phone. I'm not sure of the exact process to do it, but I know it is possible.
