Those with the update: Things you've noticed...

For those of you that have gotten the OTA update or have done it manually like I just did, what have you noticed as different, better, worse, etc? I know there's a "New Bugs in Update" thread, this is more for general changes, not bugs. (Feel free to include any bugs you've noticed though if you like.)

- The notification bar is now always visible in the browser.

- The initial sync after bootup actually ran and stopped on it's own which is nice. Even though I'd disabled T-Mobile syncing, I'd still have to kill it after first booting the phone.

- So far scrolling through pages does seem to be fixed. No more scroll/pause/zoom-at-ludicrous-speed.

I haven't noticed anything else yet, but I only applied the update about 15 minutes ago... :p

How do we force an update? I'd like to try it...

I reformatted the instructions from here:

* Make sure you have at least 50% battery power left
1) Download update file from HERE
2) Copy the Update.zip file you just downloaded to the root of your SD card
3) Turn off your phone, then power onto Fastboot mode by holding down the Volume Down button and then pressing Power
4) Once Fastboot loads, (takes a few moments after menu initially appears) highlight "Recovery mode" by pressing Volume Down and select it by pressing the Power button
5) Once in recovery basic mode, where you see the triangle with red exclamation, hold Volume Up and press Power button to get menu to appear
6) Press Volume Down to highlight "Apply sdcard:update.zip" and press Power to select
7) Wait for the update to finish installing (about 3 minutes) and the menu to reappear. With "Reboot system now" highlighted, press Power button to select
8) Your phone will reboot a few times and take longer than usual to boot (Don't panic when it appears to be stuck at the "my" logo screen) before finishing at the lock screen about 4 minutes later.

I tried that but the firmware.zip sub-folder would not extract.

Something I'd posted about several days ago seems to have been fixed with the update as well: The "sort by" for bookmarks in the browser now remembers your preference.

I wanna know how to have my phone read my text to me like they said it could with this update

It does it sorta even before the update by using the Genius Button and saying "Driving Mode On". It was dumb though before because at least for me, I would have to unlock my screen before it would tell me I had a message. At that point I might as well read it. Try turning on driving mode and see if it does it.

Ya, I wanna know about the "Genius" button updates as well. Mine seems to have worked better before I received the update! Now, my "genius" button, is more of an idiot button! I also have not noticed any improvement with my battery life!

I may be crazy, but orientation-based apps (skymap, layar, etc) seem to be a lot less "jittery" now. Still not perfect, but it does look like they improved something with the magnetometer (maybe just applied some filtering).

and I think I have a little more space on my phone... I'm not 100 percent sure about it right now..

Didn't know about the Driving Mode...just turned it on via Genius Button.

I've also started using the Genius Button this past week for sending messages and it works very well for me. But I don't like the load up times for contact info it still does.

Oh goodness, the update has made the notification bar stick when you are using the browser. That sucks, that takes up browser real estate. Is there a way to make it go away?

So i got the update and I feel like my battery is worse than before, its been unplugged since 7am now its 12 and its at 35% I hardly even used it, except check my vm and the time. wtf!!! Oh and if I decide to root my phone how does the update affect it or can you not have the update. id really like to be able to get a live wallpaper. and get some nonsense off this phone.

Maybe something went wrong with your update? My phone's been unplugged since 6:30 and now at 3:21 I'm still at 72%. This includes about 30 minutes of playing with random apps, and 30 minutes of call time. GPS and WiFi are on too...

I'm with you on the live wallpaper and getting the bloatware off... I hate having a half gig of ROM and only being able to use about 140 megs of it for apps I select...
