New Sunday circulars confirm the Motorola XOOM will be $799.99, while we’ve finally gotten a solid price on the HTC Thunderbolt – $249.99. The ad also confirms folks will need to purchase at least 1 month of data [...]

Dern it, eight-hundred bux for the Xoom. I've got one kid and my wife both wanting that little beauty. That's sixteen-hundred plus tax, etc.

Oh well.. might as well bite the bullet and get 'em anyway.

Whatever happened to the idea that Android tabs were undercutting iPads?

I don't understand the price point on these tablets. Your talking fully loaded notebook price. I just picked up a Asus laptop with an i7 for $899 that will do much more for me then any tablet could.
Not to mention notion ink basically did the same thing for $499 (375 for wifi only!) I don't get it.

The Xoom price must make Apple ecstatic. It's almost like all the tablet makers are trying to make up for the low of margins the had with netbooks, totally ignoring the 800lb gorilla iPad already in the room. At this price, the Xoom isn't so much a tablet as a sales tool for Apple marketing.

    $200 FAIL!

Just saw the price also in Burbank, CA $1199.00. My reply is simply WTF! I just returned a Gtab (word processing not ready to replace a laptop). Makes the G a real bargain. Mine was rooted VEGAn. ipad's will kill the XOOM. Greed is more prevalent then ever!

I think that's the bottom line with some of the pricing we're seeing.

But it seems that if they want to maximize their profits, they'd use "clever greed" and make those things in reach of eager customers with less money available for spending on such things.

engadget has just updated their info on this. "Update: We've heard rumblings that this is indeed just a place holder -- much like the way other companies price products they don't want to sell at ridiculous levels -- and the final price will indeed be the $800 we've heard most consistently to this point.)
