I have had an Incredible with Verizon for about 10 years now with unlimited data and it's time to move up since a number of new apps aren't supported anymore on that phone. But it's had a good run and still works flawlessly. It's not on contract any more, obviously. I know if it had a SIM card I could just buy a newer phone outright from Amazon and move the card, but the Incredible doesn't have a SIM card. If I buy a phone and bring it into a Verizon store and ask for a SIM card, will they force me off the unlimited data plan? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Definitely have to check with Verizon I think. Don't they have something where you can keep your grandfathered unlimited data plan when moving to a new phone?

If you're planning on buying a non-carrier device from Amazon, you better make sure it's going to work with Verizon for BYOD.

So NO Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Meizu, etc.

Yes, you can bring your own or buy one (pay in full up front) from Verizon and keep your unlimited plan.
There are phones that will work with no issue. The Moto X Pure is one, nice phone but will be huge for you. Lol

Yes, it's still running fine; all I've ever done is replace the battery. But it's 3G and won't run some of the new apps.

I bought a new S4 from swappa. Very fast service, by the way. Do I go ahead and insert the SIM card and charge the phone before taking it to the Verizon store? Will they need to access the SIM card? I assume I should download pics from the Incredible to my pc. Will Verizon back up the contacts? Thanks.

Yes, download any pics/songs etc. you want to your PC so you can transfer them to your new phone (you should be backing up somewhere anyway :) )
Are your contacts in Google/Gmail? If so, then they will just transfer when you sign in to the new phone.
You can activate it yourself either by calling CS or by using the online tools in My Verizon or go into the store if you prefer.

When I switched my plan from post paid to pre paid I just went to a Verizon store and they switched the sim and activated it on the spot. Took 10 mins. One of the better experience I've had at a Verizon store.
