Well it is absolutely true that I don't know what I'm talking about, but I have done a lot of reading on this forum and am doing my best to understand. I have everything that sucks battery turned off when I'm not using it. I don't let anything sync automatically. My husband and son got EVO's the same day and their batteries drain as fast as mine, so I wouldn't think it's a bad battery.

I feel like the sentiment is "Well, of course your battery is draining fast; you are USING the phone! You aren't supposed to use it; you're just supposed to keep everything turned off."

This morning I unplugged the phone at 6:15 a.m. I dropped my husband off at a triathlon and headed off to Starbucks, using my phone (GPS on) to get me there. I read news, checked facebook, texted, and in general USED the features of the phone. by 10:00 a.m. I was down to 11% battery.

If you have any suggestions, I'm all ears.

Sure, I would recommend the EVO.

I have a Novatec Revision 002 and I've had no real issues. I have a tiny bit of light leakage but I also have a silicone phone sleeve that completely covers the edge of the phone so I can't even see it in a pitch black room at night. No dust has gotten under the screen so I consider it a non-issue at this point.

I do think it's shitty HTC's quality control wasn't better but I would still recommend one. Although I wouldnt mind checking out the Samsung Epic 4G but I really don't like slide out keyboards so I'd personally probably still get the EVO 4G over the Epic 4G.

I have to bump this one. I came across a situation that made me wonder what phone on Sprint I would recommend if NOT the EVO.

    -Moment...eh..not really
    -Intercept...would have been a yes until I saw Rev0
    -Hero?
-Epic? The person in question is joining a family plan...and the $10/mo in the short term is a real turn off.

It's an upgrade from a Rumor touch. Total garbage compared to even the above phones. It's silly to have the current Sprint plan and NOT have a real smartphone in my opinion. It looks like either a hero, or a BB. If she gets a 4G phone, it will be the evo.

    Suggestions?

I bought an "Intercept" right after they came out... they came with Android 2.1, and then, within two weeks, the Epic 4G had already basically "replaced" (will replace) the Intercept, and there were no plans to upgrade the Intercept to 2.2 . So... being inside 30 days, I took it back (very, very buggy phone) and reactivated my Palm Pre... which I loved! Now I have finally gotten an EVO... aside from wanting some extra battery life, the EVO kicks butt! Great phone, highly recommended, and here in DFW Texas... my 4G is VERY fast. Go Buy One!!

Do I need to do the Froyo update on my new EVO? (got it yesterday) Not even sure what the update is, but keep seeing that word. And if yes, is it something I can do as a newbie or does it require someone with experience?
    Thx!

If you bought it just yesterday, you should have the update pre-installed.

Easiest way to check is to see if you have a Flashlight app. That was part of the 2.2 update.

kickstand - yeah this has to be about the first thing people say about my phone that know what an evo is. I agree kickstand isn't a big deal, or deal breaker for another phone. yet the kickstand is a very popular with people.

I also did side by side comparisons with a couple of iphones and my evo while at work. loading the same video at the same time my evo wins every time (loads and plays first). this on 3g, my phone has yet to ever experience 4g. so I can only assume it would load faster. tho this may be market area dependent, but most major metro areas would probably experience the same thing.

I love my evo and after almost 3 months I still can not put it down.

The only phone that may have competed is the Epic, my friend has a Droid X and I didn't care for it. I got my wife the Epic since she really wanted a keyboard (ex BB user) and after helping her get it set up I would most definitely get another EVO. The Epic had nice resolution on the screen but the capacative buttons drove me mad. You really have to press those suckers hard to get them to work. And as strange as most people might think I am I like Sense UI better than the Touch Wiz UI (I think that's what Samsung is calling it).I say EVO forever...or until I get my upgrade discount next year.

    Love love love the EVO.

7:30am - Pandora Radio while I'm in the shower. The Smiths or The Cure
8:00am - Write in my tasks for the day and have it show on one of my screens
8:15am - Check scores and news for the day while having coffee
    8:30am - Watch some YouTube
9:00am - More Pandora radio while getting dressed for work
9:30am - check the weather for my area as I do a lot of driving
    10:00am - WORK

During the course of the day I check my emails, my facebook and tech news quite a bit while in between deliveries. Entertains me for lunch. When I go home, it's always near me when I'm watching movies or watching tv because I always get in the situation of looking up an actor's history or reading up on certain areas I know nothing about. At night...I read and set my alarm. The EVO is my best friend. LOL.

Honestly, something isn't right with your phone to be draining that badly. I honestly don't think I could get my phone to drain that much if I tried. Have you looked to see what i draining your battery in the settings menu?

    I'm undecided.

I haven't had any of the battery issues that other people are talking about experiencing. I'm on the thirty day trial with two phones- iPhone 4 and Evo 4g. The Evo outlasted the iPhone by a few minutes yesterday, and the same amount (if not more) use than the iPhone did.

For some reason, the battery drains faster at night. I haven't quite figured out what I do that makes it die so quickly (I will charge it around 6pm and it will be at ten percent by 11pm). I have noticed that when I use the Hotspot, the battery drains within the hour.

I love the freedom of customization on the Evo 4g. And the internet is lightening fast, despite the fact that my phone hasn't ever even connected to the 4g network. I've been doing side-by-side tests between the iPhone and Evo for days and the Evo always wins.

My biggest hesitation is the camera. I run a business where I have to take photos and send them directly to clients. I am not fond of the Evo's camera and find it difficult to use. The screen is touchy and the camera lags awhile before actually taking the picture. The video is awful compared to the crystal clear video on the iPhone 4. Don't even get me started on video audio!

If I didn't have the iPhone 4 in my other hand, easily competing with my opinion of the Evo, I would absolutely be satisfied with the Evo's unending capabilities. But the iPhone has some amazing apps and takes beautiful photo and video.

Unfortunately, I also seem to live in a Sprint dead-zone. The iPhone almost always has service, and the Evo frequently drops in and out. However, the Evo has yet to actually drop a call.

Probably yes. After seeing my screen next to the Galaxy S though, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend that phone to anyone who watches a lot of video on their phone (like me).

ask sprint about their premier customers and how you can be on it. they get to upgrade every year!.. with full discounts. this is one of sprints huge benefits.

You'll get my EVO when you pry it from my cold dead hand (the one that isn't holding my gun). I am sure there will be better phones coming in the next year, but probably only because the EVO set the bar for the competition to step up to.

Went from iPhone to Evo. The Evo is the best phone I've ever had.

Helped a friend with her Verizon Droid X and it made me appreciate Sense UI even more.

2.2 broke a few things, but that is temporary...updates coming in all the time.

When froyo bugs are worked out and 4G is available in my area (LA) it'll even be better.

yes and no, this phone is not for everyone... the battery life issues in itself is one concern. for me i don't mind tweaking it or buying extra batteries ect.
