Is there a way to remove or uninstall default apps such as MP3 Store, Stocks, etc. I dont use some and want to remove them because they start up randomly at times.

    Thanks!

If you are rooted, YES you can.

If you are NOT rooted, you are stuck with 'em.

So, is it worth rooting. I installed the leaked version of 2.1 about a month ago. Can I still root, should I root?

Nope you cannot root since you install the leaks. You're stuck.

Rooting needs to be a decision that you make after reading up on it. Technically it voids your warranty. It also opens your phone up to a different batch of problems that Verizon/HTC won't be able to help you with.

The advantage is that the phone can further be customized to your liking and that there is a GREAT community here to help you if you have problems/questions.

I would recommend researching it prior to attempting it. That being said, I'm not sure what the root status is of the Eris.

You will still receive app updates, just not OS updates. You will be able to find root whenever the developers find access for your specific version of the leak (not sure how far along they are, though).

If Verizon releases the update with our HBoot then we can get the "official update", but for no we are stuck. I'm not sure if the Devs can do anything though, who knows what goes on in those minds of theres. :D

Is there any update yet for a possible upgrade from the leaked version?

  11. not that i know off...

plus rooting does open your phone up to spyware and viruses which is why i personally dont root my phone.

For instance, before i joined the wonderful world of Droid, i had a blackberry that was "unlocked" this allowed me to do allot more with my phone (delete unwanted apps, and use other cell towers as my own for no extra cost) but what i didnt know at the time was because my phone was unlocked people(hackers) could spy into my phone gaining my personal info. (credit cards, email passwords, even emails themselves) now although im not a tech junkie i do believe that rooting(according to a friend of mine) can also have this happen.

like Kelmar said though rooting is a personal choice it has disadvntages just as much as non-rooting does trust me i know.

Research and find out for yourself is the best advice i can give at this point
