Root To root or not? (Vodafone)

So today Vodafone have released 2.2 & there is no branding & this looks like how they will proceed in the future given the bad press they have had. Obviously its still a Vodafone rom but ultimately it's stock with the Vodafone APN settings added.

They have made it pretty clear that putting any non Vodafone rom on the phone would invalidate the Vodafone warranty & the HTC warranty situation is not clear.

So I've been deliberating on whether to root are not. If you root you can use app2sd+ which seems nice but then some people have reported some SD card corruption issues?

What are the other benefits?

I understand that you can unroot a rooted phone but would that be possible if say the screen knackers up?
