    depends....
do you want all the sprint bloatware?
    then get the official release.

if not, stay rooted, the fresh version is the same except better, depending on how you look at it.

I just loaded up Fresh 2.1.1 last night after getting my $20.00 HTC Hero in the mail yesterday and it seems very speedy, so I'm going to stick with it until there is a reason to move back to the official release. Does anyone know if Fresh 2.1.1 is based on the 2nd 2.1 leak? If so, then I see zero reason to switch.

Yes it is. The reason I am running it, is because it is faster, and takes up way less memory. I have more free space ~ 90mb compared to 35 with 2.0d

Thanks, that's good to hear considering the general consensus so far is that there is no difference between the last leak and the official release.

I am not the techie type, so I don't really understand it, but I believe it is because it is odexed. I guess it makes it run more efficiently.... I have been trying to understand it, but it's a little above my level....:D

Yeah, I could be considered a techie in a couple different areas, but I've never been a coder or can decipher the slightest bit of Unix, so I rely on the pros here.

The only thing that annoys me so far is the terrible unlock screen and my inability to install a new one into Fresh 2.1.1 w/o breaking the whole thing. The Fresh Kitchen package is a life saver though with the ability to backup and restore in just a few minutes.

The lockscreen thing is because they need to get it to work with the odex thinger. They will, we just have to wait a little while. There is a lot going on over there atm...

Check back over at xda. The deodex'ed version of Fresh 2.1 is available now, and someone said they were able to get the vanilla lockscreen installed and working.

There might be some issues, but it sounds like it's possible now.

That's good to hear, but you don't have a direct link do you? I just spent about an hour searching through the HTC Hero forums on xda but didn't find anything specific to Fresh 2.1.1, only previous rom versions.

Never mind, I found the reference. However, the person only says that they were able to get the vanilla lock screen to work w/o mentioning how, followed by words of caution as it may undo the changes to the framework. I guess I'll just be patient for now.

Yeah, I've been digging through that mess for a while. My eyes hurt >_<. I should be doing more constructive things right now, so I'm not gonna let it bother me.

Haha...that's why I changed it to a link. The tinypic forum copy/paste code threw in the full size image instead of a thumbnail. I guess I'll stuck with imageshack.

    Screw you tinypic.

And I'm sticking with Fresh 2.1.1 until I see something better. <Crosses fingers for 2.2>

That's only a 20" LCD. I'm behind the times. I thought most people had 30" LCD's tiled across their desk for full panoramic coding/gaming/designing/porn surfing???
