I bought the refurb Nexus 7 (2013) on woot a couple of weeks ago, and I've noticed something. Every now and again, the Nexus gets hot and all of my icons on the edges (mostly the command icons and the icons in-line with the app drawer) become very difficult to get to recognize any sort of touch. Funny thing though, when it's plugged in, this never happens.

This doesn't affect my wife's Nexus 7, so I'm guessing it could be a grounding issue. Has this happened to anyone else?

I think you may be right; that definitely sounds like a hardware issue to me.

Ugh, awesome. Woot is slow to answer my query since they're "pretty swamped this holiday season and it might take us up to a week to respond to your request". No idea what they'll want to do here, and I doubt I could deal with ASUS or Google because it's a refurb.

    Crud.

That probably depends on who did the refurb. Let us know if you get anywhere :)
