Keeping in mind that I don't really have a problem with TouchWiz 3.0, what are the advantages of installing LauncherPro? For those who have done it, what do you like better about LP? What advice do you give your friends when they ask? Also, if I do try it out and find problems or that I don't like it, is it as simple as uninstalling the app to get everything back to TW? Should I do a backup first?

    Thanks.

you get some extra and useful widgets (like the sense widgets on htc phones) if you pay for launcherpro. you also get a 3d app drawer and your can scroll left and right from your home screen. if you like tw that much, there isn't any need for you to switch to lp. however, you can always try the free version out. it's all a matter a of preference. i use lp myself.

The only advice i can give is to try it out for yourself and see. You can easily uninstall it if you dont like it. Just make sure you also install an app called home switcher so you can easily toggle between touchwiz and launcherpro. There is alot of customization options with launcherpro including a nice 3d like app drawer. Play around with it,you cant really mess anything up. I havent used it since im on froyo but launcherpro is really nice.

I really like having 5 apps in the dock and being able to swipe it for an extra 10.

I understand why people say to try it and see for yourself, but I'm looking for a reason to try it. What advantages does the free version give me that makes it worthwhile downloading it and trying?

    So far I have:

    - 3D app drawer
    - continuous scrolling of your homescreens

Also, if I do decide to try it out, how do I handle the Home Switcher installation? Do I install it before LP? Do run LP first? What do you suggest?

You can install it in any order you want. When you install LP and you click on the home button the first time, the phone will ask you which launcher you want to user, the build in one or LP, you can also make LP the default one.

The Dock is the bottom part of the home screen, where you have your Contacts, phone, apps drawer button and browsers. On the default LP you have 5 shortcuts, "Phone, Contacts, Apps Button, Messages, and browser" you can add 10 more shortcuts.

LauncherPro, ADW and some other Launchers allow more customisation. I like being able to customise icons, docks and widgets, which TW doesn't have. I also find TW a tad slower than I like. I ended up with Zeam, which seems to be faster for my Galaxy S, though it doesn't allow customisation of the dock.

First, I really like TouchWiz. But- I use Launcher Pro Plus for a few reasons. First, allowing 15 shortcuts in the dock is extremely nice. Second, the widgets that come with Plus are excellent.

I do wish Launcher Pro Plus had a side scrolling app drawer though.

It probably takes you less time to download it and try for 10 minutes than to make a thread and wait for people to reply! haha

there are no real technical advantages! like i said, if you like TW that much, i don't see what's wrong with that either. they both offer different styles of homescreen/app drawer that's all

Actually, that's what you'll see with an Android phone. You'll try to make a style for 2 months. And some other app comes and changes everything. There is one principle on that, and it is stressed by tuahogary: Try and see.

What I think is if you like the style and don't think that something you need isn't missing, then stick with it.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Since I don't really have any problems with TW, and there don't seem to be any obvious functional advantages to LP, I may hold off changing...unless someone posts a deal-changer.

Gingerbread the launcher is different from Gingerbread the firmware. I know, it's confusing.

I have tried launcher pro before, and the only thing i preferred about it over touch-wiz was being able to have your home screens in landscape mode, but other than that I had no use for it so I un-installed it again.
It's a good launcher but it doesn't do enough different to touch-wiz to make it worth using for me.

Just switch back to TW when connecting to Kies. No need to uninstall.
I used the Home Switcher app in the market to switch from TW to LP.

Ability to hide apps in the App Drawer that you don't use (reason enough by itself to use LP)

Apps in app drawer are alphabetized instead of new apps being put at the end.

Personally I like the vertical scrolling app drawer over the horizontal scrolling in TW.

    +1 on multiple scrolling docks.

I bought LP Pro but I don't use any of the LP Widgets.

I agree. I find LP is way faster than Touch Wiz.
