Help Traingle, exclamation mark and green android guy

My X was stuck in the dialer/contacts/recent/favorites area - so I pulled the battery. First time I got stuck on the M screen. Second battery pull and I ended up with the triangle (with exclamation mark) and the little android guy.

HELP! Any idea what's going on and what I can do to fix this?

The Droid X has a "safe mode" that you can boot into, that doesn't require the loss of your data. You could try that just to see if it loads.

Unable to navigate in the recovery screen. Some sort of problem with the volume keys. How do you navigate into safe mode?

Thanks! I was able to get in through safe mode and this seems to have unjammed things. I was then able to get things moving again. I had already wiped my phone while trying to fix it earlier but at least it's working again! Seems to be faster this time around.

The speed your experiencing is most likely due to the fact that you (likely) have no apps running, so all the resources are applied to the system and UI (as they have nothing "better" to do). Glad it worked!
