What is the fastest method to copy a lot of contacts from one Eris to another?

GMail.

If you are changing phones and will be using the same gmail account on the second Eris, having your contacts in GMail will mean that they will show up on the new phone.

If it is a second Eris that will use a different GMail account, you can go to GMail on your PC, export all your contacts and then import them into the new GMail account for use on the second Eris.
