So I'm from Europe and I will be travelling to NYC for 10 days soon. My carrier here doesn't have any good international data options so won't be able to use my SIM.

What are my options? Are there any prepaid sim I can buy there and use for unlimited internet while in US? I have HTC ONE M9.

NYC, Manhattan? Just using WiFi might be enough. :thumbsupdroid: I should imagine you might be able to buy pre-paid SIMs with data as well, at JFK or something, but probably won't be unlimited data though. As long as your M9 is unlocked it will be OK for a pre-paid SIM.

unless you need the internet when away from a WiFi source, I think you will need to just pick up a PrePaid phone.

going to be a tad expensive just for 10 days of use though.

Maybe get a SIM card from a provider for temporary use?
Stop in at any of the cellphone stores, someone can help you out.

I assume that your phone will be GSM ??

if so, look at Cricket or one of the other pay as you go providers.

I'm thinking you should be able to buy a pre-paid SIM with data when you arrive, although I've not been to the US since 2008.

This vending machine was at London Heathrow, in the arrivals hall.

All international airports I've been through in the last few years, Hong Kong, Beijing, Malaysia, Ireland, Singapore, Russia, Qatar, can buy pre-paid SIMs. Just have to have a suitable unlocked phone. HTC One M9 from Europe should be OK, provided it's unlocked. There's the trusty http://willmyphonework.net/ of course. :)

Have a look at what Best Buy offers. @AZgl1500 suggested Cricket.

Shouldn't be difficult to buy a pre-paid SIM with data in most countries, not like going to North Korea or something. :D You're only there for 10 days, in NYC, How much data are you actually planning on using for when there's no WiFi available? I was in the UK a couple of months ago, for 10 days and used about 1GB of wireless data, pre-paid SIM.

    EDIT

I was in Boston for a week in 2008, and getting online using just WiFi for when I needed was no problem. I had roaming as well, extremely expensive, so didn't bother with that at all. Had an original iPhone at the time.

If a MetroPCS Sim will work with your phone, they have $40 a month unlimited plans. Their coverage in NYC should be adequate.

They do not allow tethering, but there are ways to work around that.

NYC just recently implemented a new, more expansive public WiFi service so depending on where you'll be staying and hanging out you might be able to just rely on WiFi. Note all public WiFi networks increase your risk to security and privacy violations so using your own cellular service would be better if you'll be accessing any personal services (i.e. online bank account) but they did take steps to secure things:

In any case you'll want to use your own VPN service to be safe:

There are prepaid plans at your local Walmart, Target, CVS and grocery stores. Look for a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) straight talk and cricket I'd recommend because they have these options check out their website: http://www.shopstraighttalk.com/bpd...ction=view&productVariantExtensionId=28566468

When using any public WiFi, you should not do anything that requires a password,

UNLESS you are using a VPN service.

there are several that are free that you can use for a short term. Like your visit to NYC

I have a subscription to PureVPN and use it when away from home and using a public WiFi
