    Hi,

I recently learnt of this update, but having real trouble installing it. I sync Hero to HTC, follow instructions, get half way through to point where blue bar says it's erased 11% of contacts...and every single time I get error 171: USB connection error. The phone or computer keeps dropping the connection; anyone got any ideas why this might be happening and how to solve it??

    Thanks

Have you downloaded the new HTC sync program?

Using the fancy USB cable supplied with the phone?

Did you get your Hero from Orange, or is it an unlocked Hero you're using on Orange?

I actually got my phone from orange but it came with the default htc rom, so I installed the default htc rom, and not the orange and it worked fine.

I reckon your issue is with your computer, try it on another PC/Laptop, if the problem continues, try a different cable, if it continues, theres an issue with the phone.

Can you still factory reset the phone?
