Is there not something in Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile networks -> Network mode to allow you to choose between LTE/CDMA and CDMA?

I know many Verizon s3 owners complained of the same problem, but found the app called "phone info" to help. Was that the one you tried?

    My choices are:
    Global
    LTE / CDMA
    GSM / UMTS
