With my old Windows phone, there was a simple setting that lets me set a time that the email will come to my phone. I usually had it set to check email from 8am to midnight, as i don't need my phone going off all night and waking me up. I have searched all over this phone, and cannot find an option to turn off gmail at night. Is there a way to do this, or am i going to have to get an app to do this?

Your answer lies in the Mail app, NOT the GMail app. There are two apps available for mail on the EVO, Mail and GMAIL. The Mail app is more customizable. Remember, if you use the Mail app, deselect GMail for syncing under Settings, Accounts & Sync, Google. Good luck.

Timeriffic, in the Market. Won't shut down Gmail, but does let you turn off notifications at user selectable time periods.

So using Mail instead of Gmail will be the same? I will still get push email immediately, and have all the options that the gmial app has?

Well I tried that, and the only option it has is to disable ALL notifications. I still want to be able to receive texts, in case my work or someone needs to contact me. I just dont want to be getting emails all night

turn the mobile network off with the toggle widget in the settings menu. That will stop everything except phone calls.

Didn't think about that, seems simple enough. I will still get texts correct?

get locale. it's $10 but it'll shut off your data connection completely if you want to automatically based on time of day

Is there an App that will shut the entire phone off at night and auto turn it on in the morning?

I miss that from my Blackberry

I have the Evo and tested it myself with my other line. Selecting to turn off mobile network with the widget simply turns the data services off. You still receive sms messages and phone calls.

You will receive SMS yes, because that doesn't actually data if you are getting SMS on to your actual carrier mobile number. However, if you are using SMS with the GV app on your GV number, you will not because the GV app uses data to receive SMS.

So just keep that in mind.

I wanted to know this to...so I played with my settings in the gmail app I went to settings, notifications, and selected vibrate for notifications originally it said default notification which is what I didnt want to hear... :p

yeah, there's several ways to disable notifications just for email. you can...

    A) disable mail syncing. to do this for the gmail app
menu > settings > accounts and sync > Google > uncheck "sync gmail"

alternatively, if you still want to receive email, you can just turn off notifications for the app

    B) open gmail app > menu > settings > uncheck "email notifications"
enabling vibrate will still send a sound out if your phone is set to ring instead of just vibrate.

what i find most odd about this phone is that if you put the phone on vibrate, neither the email (gmail app) nor txt mssgs vibrate unless vibrate is checked for both apps. although, i remedied this for txt messages by installing sms popup. now if i put my phone on vibrate, i get vibration whether it's checked in the message app or not.

honestly, i actually never use the vibrate functions anyway. it's either silent, or sound.

I'm sorta frustrated here. I've checked every possible "Vibrate" box on my Evo. I'm only getting notifications up in the top left of my screen but absolutely no vibrating is happening with the phone. I've tried the Mail App, the Gmail App, the SMS settings..everything. What the hell am I doing wrong?????
