well, there's an option to turn 3g off, but is it possible to turn gprs & edge off for when you really need to conserve the battery?

I use a free app called APNDroid to do this.
You can put a widget on the home screen for fast on/off switching.

Airplane mode switches off the phone functionality!
I think he just wanted to turn off data traffic :)

btw, apndroid never worked for me (dont know why) so i use "toggle data widget"

    correct

seems to work fine for me - using k4, no csc

i prefer apps that don't have functionality that i wouldn't use anyway - the keep it stupid, simple principle

Fair, but I found it replaced multiple widgets with one - uber simplicity :D
