I have a Samsung Stratosphere. I'm wanting to disable email notifications during nighttime hours. I have a gmail account, but instead of using the gmail app (with the red M in the icon), I'm using the email app (which came with the phone) that has the green @ symbol. It provides capability for setting peak and off-peak hours where you can "supposedly" change the synch frequency, but it doesn't appear to be working for me. I have the "peak" time set from 8am - 10pm, synching every 5 minutes during that period of time, and only synching manually during the off-peak time period. However, it's still automatically synching (and sending audible notification!) at all hours of the night. Does anyone know how to get this to work properly? Any help would be appreciated. I need to keep the phone by my bed as it's my only phone, but don't want to be constantly woken up by email notifications in the middle of the night. Thanks.

You can just use another app to silence all notifications during certain times. I use "Timeriffic". It allows me to set different profiles, with days, hours and what I want turned on and off. Try it out and see how you like it.

I am looking for the same thing. I currently use Bedside which turns off all sounds but lets me set a white list for the phone numbers that I want to get calls from. My son recently deployed to Afghanistan and I can't set a number as they all show up as out of area. I need something that will let me tsilence email, text, facebook, etc notifications but allow ALL phones calls to ring through.

Try Sound Manager v2 from Google play/Android market. It won't turn you're notifications off (you'll still get the icon & LED) but you can set schedules for your different volume settings including muting.

Profile Scheduler. This free version has ads.

Maybe this might work for you? It has whitelist contacts, separate volume settings for notifications, voice, ringtone, etc.
