    1. I'm already sure it does, but would rooting my Evo nullify my BestBuy Warranty on my phone?

    2. Would it affect me trading my phone back in when I get a new phone?

yes and yes lol black tie coverage is voided if you try to exchange while rooted, but if youre able to unroot b4 it "accidentally breaks" then youre fine

edit: i heard (altho this is entirely rumour) that sprint is lifting the rooting ban... if thats the case, it would stand to reason that best buy would too

Rooting does void your warranty as doofus stated. However it is pretty easy to unroot it. I had to unroot my phone because it was randomly rebooting. The sprint techs never new I was rooted. And if doofus's rumor is correct that would b awesome.

That rumor would be great if true. One less thing to worry about. NOT to even mention rooted software is much better than stock anyway IMHO...

right?!? yeah man, it would be the intelligent thing to do. If they lift the ban tho, i fear that a ton of people would eff their phones up. But i guess that would liven up this forum a bit. I think im gonna call sprints c/s this weekend to find out what the rumor i heard is all about.... but please know that the ban lift is entirely that right now, mere speculation. But i dont know if that would also apply to best buys coverage plan even if it were true

If Sprint was smart, they would sell an insurance policy for rooted users at a premium cost.....

I just don't see them covering rooted phones because rooting opens up so many causes to problems that could occur. Can you imagine all of the panic threads on here.....going straight to Sprint???? It sure would eat up a lot of their resources in a hurry. Now maybe they could have a conditional statement that would say something like hardware issues would be covered regardless of the state of the phone....which makes obvious sense. Anyway, just a free for all lift of the "rooting ban" is likely a fantasy....I just don't see that happening.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. And, I kind of think it would, dumb-up the place a bit. More people would attempt the root without understanding what they are doing, and the risks they are taking if they could just take it to Sprint to fix/exchange. But it would be nice, because a rooted phone has nothing to do with a broken usb port.

Well I guess no rooting for me for now, the main thing was if I could trade it back to Best Buy or not.

i unrooted my to take it to a sprint tech to look at it, and they had no idea i was rooted. so go ahead and root it. pretty easy process and just as easy of a process to unroot. like i said before it is really super duper hard to brick your phone. there are many people hear who can walk you through the process if you need to. just read the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html. i read it a few times and then proceeded to root it with no issues. i hope you root yours because i love my phone so much more now that it is rooted.

The techs at a certain store in the greater Pittsburgh area know I've got rooted phones. They don't care really, as long as I don't bring it in for effed up software it's all good. In all actuality, hardware is hardware, as long as you're responsible with your software alterations you can't hurt the hardware with root permissions. The key point here is being responsible with root access.

Lifting the ban would ultimately drive the cost of our monthly plans to rise faster than the current model. Which in turn would actually make Sprint more money in the end, so it may not be as far fetched as in the past. Don't listen to me I'm clueless! :D

First and foremost, the only dumb question is an unasked one, secondly, I've had Best Buy's Black Tie Coverage and exchanged and got a new phone while my phone was rooted. I took it while it was rooted and they didn't care. Obviously, it's not worth the gamble, plus it's easy enough to unroot, but thought you'd like to hear my experience with it.
