    ***** ROM Reviews *****

    Review by YankeeDudeL
    Initial Setup:
Very fast setup. About a minute was all it took. First thing I noticed was a diff font. It let's you know right off the bat you're dealing with something different, and believe me, you are. Market synced up within 20 mins and actually restored the vast majority of my apps. More than any ROM has in the past, in fact.

The stock theme is something I've always found very appealing, almost like a simple black. Nothing flashy out of the box, but this is where this ROM is diff. You can customize this on levels that no other ROM provides an option for. You can customize your own live wallpaper, configure a theme, change fonts, boot animations, everthing, in a way that no other ROM offers you so easily. Truly, the level of customization is unmatched here. No ROM, not even Cyanogenmod offers the possibility of configuration quite the way Ultimate Droid does.

Not the flashiest numbers I've seen, but very adequate. Stock is quite supple, but what people care about is what happens when they flash their own trusted kernels. I wasn't able to get jdlfg's 1.2GHz kernel stable like I was with other ROMs which cause some discreptencies, but what worked best for me was Jake's 1GHz. I scored as high as 1536 on Quadrant, which is very respectable, but not as impressive as quite a few ROMs. But the ROM, for the most part, was very fluid, and lag never felt like it was an issue. However...

    App and System Function:
It felt like this ROM was trying to do too much. It's a very reponsive ROM, but perhaps too responsive. What I mean is, you could long press on the background to install a widget, but it might think you're trying to scroll between homepages. It's actually a problem that occurs with some regularity. While previous ROMs seem to understand what a user is trying to do with their Droid, UD seems to want to make that decision for you. Perhaps that's an unfair assesment, but that's exactly what I take it for being. It comes up a lil too often to be overlooked, and is probably the biggest drawback of this ROM.

Battery life is fair. It feels like it might be running a lil hot when putting it through the ringer, but it never actually overheats. The actual battery life is quite adequate considering what you're asking it to do, and will not dissappoint you.

GPS and WiFi are not an issue. The only real app problem I found was that my NY Times widget received and error when it tried to DL it. However, trying to reinstall it from the Market wasn't an issue. And like I stated earlier, it restored more apps than any other ROM to date.

This ROM is something special. It offers a level of customization that CM wouldn't have even thought of. Whether that's the intention of this ROM or whatever is up to debate. You truly have to experience this ROM to understand it. However, it feels like it's trying too hard at times. It can be quick and responsive, but so much so that it can slow you down when you're actually trying to do something. The Droid in and of itsefl seems to be very inuitive as where this ROM seems to not be. I highly recommmend you try this ROM just to see how a Droid can become, like the website says, an addiction. However, it's more idea than it is actual function. Still, this is like taking the best of every single ROM out there and puttin it together. It's somewhat of an abstract prize, but it def has the potential to be a masterpiece.

Ultimate Droid. Unless things have changed its just a kanged version of CM.

I think that this ROM should get it's shot with the RSS as well. I know that a few of the ROM Revs have used UD in the past and were able to keep the "political" aspect separate from the actual ROM so we might even get some unbiased reviews (I won't be doing one however :))

Having said that, I'm not going to go searching for Blackdroid's ROM. If anyone wants to post a link...be my guest and we can update the OP, and add a poll to this thread.

I felt the same way. However, for the users that feel his ROM works best with their own Droid, I themed the ROM for them. It is posted in my thread. With an explanation.

Heh. Only way the theme would work.

I was a UD user for a long time b/c it was the one ROM I could install and get 1200 MHz OC working perfectly fine.

Add to that the dark theme and it was irresistible to me.

however, with the whole fiasco of what is who's and where it came from, I finally left it and decided to force my way into other ROMs.

I agree with UBR - if someone wants to review it then Go ahead - it may be a Kanged ROM, but if it works, more power to ya.

    Hey Stewart1,

Pardon my ignorance but is this link to a themed version of 6.0?

Is it the latest version of this ROM? I am currently running 5.0.1 (it rocks!) and I want to try 6.0. I have pulled the ROM off of his site and am ready to try it out.

Should I use this themed version instead?

    Any advice is appreciated.

Yes, this ROM is themed with Watermark'D.

    It is 6.0.0

I just flashed UD 6.0 this morning and am really enjoying this rom. It is fast and very customizable. Also installed Luna theme and couldn't be happier with my phone.

Here is the link to download UltimateDroid 6.0. If i'm not allowed to post the link please remove it.

Flashed this one yesterday, and I've got to say, it's the customization that really keeps people hooked on UD.

Leaving out the politics, this ROM is incredibly fast, and the feature for the rotary lock screen is just an example of the little things that are put in. Also, having picture previews of the changeable boot animations, live wallpapers, etc. are also pretty neat.

Not that it doesn't have its problems, if you don't wipe x3. But I suppose that goes for pretty much every ROM.

Well, no one will be shocked by this but stewart1champ has pulled Watermark'D from UD. Basically a moderator at UD named RedmanX pulled the theme and repackaged it as his own in a different thread under all of RedmanX's heists!

That thread has since been removed but RedmanX would not respond to Stewart's or my comments. Even UD users are asking him to justify his actions!

*** Note: Stewart did NOT ask for me to post anything at UD but I could not let him be the only voice of reason. Stewart is a good guy who is working hard to keep up with numerous request. Including the UD version of his theme, he has made 7 variations of Watermark'D! Only issues so far...is with Team UD! ***

There are a lot of other ported themes listed there that show exactly what they are doing...example below:

I wonder what roberj (the real creator of the "Alternate Dark Theme") would think of this? Stewart1Champ obviously wasn't too keen about it!

Look at who is credited! Really...Blackdroid and Team? Oh yeah...don't forget to donate!

The attached files are screenshots of my responses to their actions. The link can be found here but I anticipate my posts won't stay there for long

I hate to stir stuff up but damn...I can't tolerate their BS!

If you run UD...please seek out the "real" developers that created what you are running and funnel your donations to the appropriate sources.

Wow, I'm going to have to say that this is a bunch of crap, I can't believe they did that. How hard is it to give credit where it is due. Pretty sad that they can't even do that. They can obviously build (or steal) a good rom, don't see why they are taking it to this degree of forgery. I will definitely be switching back to LithMod after reading and hearing about this. And would suggest that any other users using this rom due the same out of pure principle.

What's bad is that their users are embarrassed. Embarrassed enough to change ROMs? I don't know...but they don't want the bad press.

I was an early advocate of UD. I liked the ROM but decided I couldn't support people that were stealing. I have said for a long time that if BlackDroid would have just credited everyone and said he was using other's work to make a superior ROM...He'd be a hero and still in good standing with the vast majority of the community that can't just look the other way!

I honestly didn't see this mess coming from a theme! How ridiculous!

Agreed, I flashed this rom after reading about it on DroidForums.net and had no idea about it, I wondered why it was so hard to find, and found out that they can't even have download links to it on their site. This in itself made me weary but still flashed it anyways. Thank you for shedding light about what they are doing. This is shameful and embarrassing to me just to say that I used this ROM. It is a great ROM but I will not support ANYONE who steals others hard work, and takes donations on top of it. I agree that it could have been prevented very very easily but they chose to be shady about it.

Ugh! It really does urk me to know there are people like that out there. And they won't even try to justify it in any means, just shut the thread down which is just admission of guilt in my eyes.

Trying to do my part and warn others who didn't know about UD like me.

Just to let you all know, there is no BlackdroidMod Team, I am the only developer of Ultimate Droid and am not officially affiliated with ANY themers. I give FULL and poper credit for ever feature on all of my roms and credit each developer in my changelogs. I will not stand back and see UD dragged through the mud any further because of any more misconception.

The ONLY reason it says "Staff" under his name is because I had to give him certain priviledges in order to have his own theme section.

So "Blackdroid and Team" is taken out of context?

I called out RedmanX for taking credit for themes he didn't created so people could donate and "Buy him a beer"...one of your users even said that he wondered what you would think. You closed the thread (doesn't look real good if your not affiliated with it).

Why not just deal with the situation in the thread...mandate that the themers on your site at least credit and link back to the original creator?

These real themers aren't even getting a mention and we should all be able to agree that is not right!

Yet, you seem to be more concerned with your site being dragged through the mud? I'm just a little confused here...

If RedManX is a Staff/Moderator on your site, you are responsible for all actions of your team. Whether you like it or not. And shutting down the thread that exposes it just seems to leave a bad taste in my mouth. Who is to say he is not STILL getting donations from others from stolen work? If you run the site you need to run the mods/staff members as well and make it very clear to them that it is not tolerated.

I know a lot of thought goes into new releases to credit everything. Seems that most Devs are a little gun shy and don't want to leave someone's name off the list.

Just looking after the people that spend time creating themes.

I won't comment on your ROM cause I haven't ran it in a long while. This wasn't directed personally at you and I was going to send you a PM to get your take before I saw you closed the thread. I assumed it was you cause I saw you online and figured I had my answer.

No one said that porting themes is easy...but creating them is noteworthy I think. All I'd like to see is the proper people getting the props they deserve. I think that is fair.

I HAVE NO TEAM, HE ISNT STAFF. The only reason it says that is because it was the only way to give him (along with the rest of the other themers) privileges for his own themer section.

Both of those themes have been removed.
  25. darkside

    darkside Android Enthusiast

Agreed, it seems as though the theme has been taken down, so hopefully credit where go where it needs to. Thank you for taking the theme down and addressing the isssue.
