Samsung UK have confirmed no upgrade until next month.
I bet after November they will delay it until January 2011, by then Android 3.0 will be out, typical Samsung. We might not like Apple a lot but they do take care of their products better, be it even the most recent ones only.
Would not be at all surprised, to be honest I'm likely to have given the Galaxy S up as a bad job by then.
Where is it a quote from?
The Samsung UK official Twitter account.
Yeah I saw this on twitter too, so I tweeted back telling them they are useless!
How can we be told we will get it in September then told November? TWO months? I'm sure Froyo doesn't need TWO months of messing with!
At this rate by the time we actually receive Froyo, my 2 year contract will be up, I'll have a totally different phone, and we'll all be driving flying cars!
Well i think the reason for the delay could be because samsung know that the gps issue hasnt been resolved and whatevet fix was incorporated into the froyo release hasnt worked.
I managed to install the release using kies and generally its very good.
The gps though is still utterly useless. Yesterday i drove to glasgow using copilot on the phone. Travelling over a bridge the software had me somewhere in a side street, missing my junction off the motorway.
I tried my tracks and the trace was laughable as i cycled home from work. At times i was 3 streets away.
so this is why i think its delayed again. They cannot fix it so they keep stalling hoping for a solution rather than face a mass recall.
the gps is obviouly a hardware issue and they stated they would fix it when froyo came out.
hence the failed release.
If it's for a better froyo update I'm OK with waiting.
Don't get me wrong I'm growing (VERY) impatient myself, but the last thing I want is to upgrade, just to scramble looking for ways to get back on Eclair...
The gods must be crazy........
I dont think tbere is much wrong with froyo itself. Its all running very well.
only issue is deleating emails is still painfully slow.
i upgraded because i needed flash on the internet browser.
Everything else is great.
gps is so unreliable though that i now know samsung cannot fix it.
Design fault or hardware fault. Probably design fault otherwise new phones would be fixed.
if samsung release froyo with no magic fix then the floodgates are open for complaints and returned phones.
If people release a date for something to be released why prospone it time and time again, Samsung meet your deadlines.
So, we think the delays are because of the GPS being "buggy" at best.
I wouldn't be half as irritable about it if they TOLD us why it was being pushed back...
I hope for their sake Froyo is good, otherwise the backlash and complaints will be painful for them.
It's not just about the GPS. There are quite a few factors which have thrown spanner after spanner in the works and unless you have been keeping up with the whole situation of events then it will be extremely difficult to unfold the sad story to newcomers.
Yes, I completely agree Samsung have a moral duty in keeping their public fully aware of the sorry situation.
Simply issuing a public statement that it is delayed again is not enough.
Instead of moaning about it here, do something constructive and get down to your local Samsung outlets and fill out any forms they have stating you are not happy.
Next, hit as many Samsung sites as you can again stating your dissatisfaction.
Finally take your frustration to the web bloggers and post your feelings in there.
In other words you will not get any ears from Samsung listening here but you will certainly get their attention if you take it to their door.
If you use Twitter you can bug them on there as well e.g. samsungukmobile
I don't accept that.
My big problem with Samsung is their KEIS software which is horrible.
Delaying this update is a pretty smart move by them and I completely agree with it.
This update has to sort GPS, provide 2.2 and sort the lag. If they don't do all 3 at once then another update is required later. If it's at all possible to do at least 2 of them within the next couple of months then they're better waiting until they can do both at once.
It's all very well for us tech savvy people who want our updates and we want them now, but the bulk of Samsungs customers will be less competent than us and it's already quite taxing having them do one update (and the associated bricking, and failing etc) than doing two or even three.
From my viewpoint (I'm not following this particularly deeply) I expect them to deliver 2.2 and GPS fix in the same update, and I'm hopeful but not betting on them sorting out the lag at the same time. I'm not too bothered about the lag, I can just lagfix it myself with the app, but it'd be nice to get an official fix done.
mine all ready froyo kies hack
