I sees the router, a Netgear 6200, and surrounding networks but gives the errors ... weak signal or out of range (even when next to it) . Tried forgetting and reconnect but the same result. Was connected and working to this router for over 6 months and have many other Android devices connected to it

Did you try power-cycling/rebooting your router?

Yes, thanks, I have rebooted both the router and tablet several times and see my router, and several others in the neighborhood, but still can't connect.

Common sense would suggest that its the update. Google, which I suggest trying next time, shows a LOT of people having this issue after the latest update. Roll back your update if you can. Or wait for a fix. More information would help as well.
    Are you rooted?
    Version of Android?
    Any wifi apps installed?
    Wifi tether apps?
    Ad blockers?
    Firewall/anti virus?

I've found many solutions to this on Google in under 5 minutes. But more information from you is needed to assist you.
